films: Recommend a movie from another country! (Non english speakin plz)

I think you may like any movie from Pedro Almodovar, a spanish filmmaker:

"Pepi, Lucy & Boom and other girls on the heap" or " Women on the verge of a nervous breakdown" somewhat like Sex in the city in the freaky style.

Sin noticias de Dios or Don't Tempt Me (translation doesn't equal out IMO but whatever)

Penelope Cruz is this HOT lesbian chick from hell (literally) that gets sent to earth to fight against a super sexy lounge singer from heaven for the soul of a boxer. It has everything you want in a movie :)

Pusher----I'm pretty sure its Danish

City of God----Brazilian

Carandiru--also Brazilian--True story about a massacre in a prison

I also recommend Pusher, the first is best but the whole trilogy is good.

Das Experiment is a German film I've just watched based loosely on the Stanford Prison Experiment. Really good.

Was that the experiment where the students played the prisoners and the guards, and stuff started getting out of hand and they had to shut down the whole thing?

(I'm probably wrong, but I seem to remember reading about that in 11th grade sociology text, .............could be another case altogether.)

That's the one, although i'm not sure they were students, I think they were just volunteers responding to an advertisement.

I found Das Experiment ok at best though.

They were psychology students in the Stanford Prison Experiment, volunteers in the film. The film takes the basic truths of the Stanford Prison Experiment and runs a mile with them.

Bon cop Bad cop

If you want a funny action movie you're all set. Its a bilingual movie, some parts they speak in french and others, in english (subtitles avaible)

The Class.

Out at all good cinemas now (in the UK).

Was nominated for best foreign language film at the Oscars.

The Edukators is good.

London to Brighton is a pretty gritty and violent UK film.

Battle Royale (Japan) -> "Survivor" meets "Lord of the Flies"

Filantropica (Ro mania) -> unassuming comedy that is really really funny

Hana-Bi (Japan)

La Piovra (The Octopus) (Italy) -> TV series about the inner workings of the Sicilian Mafia. This is a slow-paced film that requires getting into, with little hardcore action, but it is one of the best, most realistic and most dramatic crime films I've ever seen. In Europe it was a cult hit.

Brother (Russia) -> Decent gangster movie. Nothing special.

Brother (Japan) -> Goofy over-the-top gangster movie. Lulzy moments - a guy getting chopsticks slammed up his nose. Also, many other of Takeshi Kitano's movies.

I only included some more recent movies. If you want to delve into the classics you have a whole lot to go through.
