films: best sports movie? (last call for nominations for a poll)

I'd have to go with Hoosiers for a serious sports movie. I can't stand Field of Dreams...so boring.

I almost forgot Vision Quest! That movie used to get me CRAZY pumped up for wrestling tournaments.

Michael...good call on Breaking Away. I believe it won an Oscar for best original screenplay in 1979

anyone seen the movie "the rocket" about maurice richard? i'm downloading it now, but it's taking so fucking long! there's practically NO seeders!

my favorite sports movies though would have to be...

miracle
mystery, alaska
slap shot
all the mighty ducks movies (i know i'm so cliche)
eight men out
the sandlot (the first one... was AWESOME!)
rookie of the year (haha)
bull durham
major league 1 and 2
field of dreams (even more amazing when on acid)
baseketball (i suppose it counts)
football factory (subculture related to sports i suppose)
green street hooligans (as cliche and americanized as it is... it's still decent)

I love that movie! All of the kids were great in it!

As far as sports comedies go, Bad News Bears, Caddyshack, Major League and Happy Gilmore can't be beat. And yes, I even like The Mighty Ducks. I haven't seen that in a looooong time.

*Fuck me! How could I have left out Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Rickie Bobby? It's my favorite of the whole bunch!

Must be an American thing because watching Field of Dreams to me is like scrapping my eyes with a fork. And seriously Mighty Ducks????? You all should leave your continent for a little bit, I think you're going soft up stairs. ;)

Most have been mention already (Raging Bull, Mystery Alaska, Victory with Pele FFS!)

While more a doco than movie, When we were Kings is an excellent watch.

I also loved Big Blue,1988 movie about a French Free diver.

Chariots of Fire is an all time great.

All though not competitive sport I can't go 6 months without pulling out Point Break. Blue Crush is another cool surf movie (with added babe factor).

Does Waterboy scrap in? I fucking love the tackle scenes.=D
