films: Actors/Actresses you hated until "that" movie

I never really hated Adam Sandler, but I never really respected what he could do until I saw Punch Drunk Love. Same sort of thing for Jim Carey until I saw The Truman Show.

Tom Cruise till I saw : Collateral, The Last Samurai

Brad Pitt till I saw : Fight Club

i couldn't stand dicaprio until i saw gangs of new york and have since seen catch me as you can and basketball diaries and now i have to respect him a bit....

but titanic and the island made me want to puke

Liev Schreiber

Don't ask me why but Liev Schreiber got on my nerves until The Manchurian Candidate. I think he played that roll to a tee. Now I like him.

I love the Beach too! one of my favorite movies .

I never really liked Julia Roberts until I saw her on Mary Reilly (tee hee)

^Funny that you should touch on Julia Roberts. She's annoys me beyond the bounds of imagination. She's a terminal case imho. There's almost no role she could do to save face - with me.

i used to find jim carrey really irritating, and i still do, but the only difference now is that ever since i saw eternal sunshine of a spotless mind and actually how the grinch stole christmas too, i've had more respect for him as an actor. and he wasn't bad in that movie with renee zellweger either: me, myself, and irene (?).

I thought the exact same thing until I saw her in Closer.

Granted, she was blown off the screen by the extraordinarily gifted Clive Owen and Natalie Portman, but she held her own in her scenes with Jude Law, which is far more than I could have hoped for after her four hundred eighty-three consecutive turns as a slightly-less repugnant Sandra Bullock.

^lololol i agree 100%.
When i see Robin Williams I cringe and wonder how the fuck did I endure watching this guy on the big screen since his Mork and Mindy Days? 8(
I can only bear repeated viewings of him in Birdcage and Mrs Doubtfire.
PS. Julia Roberts at her best (to me, that is ;))

I never really hated this person, but I certainly thought he was a worthless actor. until I saw the Bourne Identity. I'm talking of course about Matt Damon. after watching Bourne, I realized he just always took roles in movies that I thought were crap. I'm glad I gave him a chance, but that certainly doesn't mean I'm going to go watch Good Will Hunting now. :p

No . . . you wouldn't want to lower yourself to watching a film that was nominated for nine Academy Awards and was the Academy Award winner for best original screenplay and best supporting actor.

I mean, after all, two popular young movie stars were in it - it must suck.

I totally agreed with you until you mentioned Portman's fantastic??? acting in Closer. Were we watching the same movie? She was the worst thing about it; she can't act at all. Her dialogue was so stilted and uncomfortable (and not in an "it was supposed to" kind of way.)

well, you seem really smart so I'll keep this short...

have you ever heard of an opinion, or personal taste? I have in fact watched Good Will Hunting, and in my opinion it sucked. it just wasn't my type of movie, regardless of how many "awards" it won.

I would also like to add how sad it is that you think someone should like a movie because others liked it.

it won best supporting actor! holy crap, I better go rent it right now. 8)
