Film: Zatoichi

Hi guys,

I have only heard about it and saw the trailer thats it.

It stars Takeshi Kitano (Beat Takeshi) as a blind swordsman in this samurai film called 'Zatoichi'. I am very keen on checking it out, dont know if it will be on Australian cinemas or not, can someone give me info on a release date or a site where you can view release dates of upcoming movies etc.

Takeshi Kitano is a master in Asian cinema, the only other movie I have seen from him was the movie 'Brother' which I enjoyed immensely.

Anywayz well worth a look guys, check it out, its said to be one of the best Samurai movies, even better than the japanese trilogy of 'Samurai'.

There are a whole series of Zatoichi movies from either the 60's or 70's, but I'm not sure if this is supposed to be a remake or just an addition to the series. I've been reading some really strange reviews on this new version though, with talks of musical numbers and the like.

If not on cinemas it should come onto video though right? I cant believe there is no info on an Australian release. And yes you are right about different episodes of Zatoichi, but I do think this 2003 release is an independent film on its own.

kitano also directed (and acted in) hana-bi - a classic of asian cinema, so you'd hope this would be good. hopefully the nova or kino (maybe the lumierre) will pick it up...

i met beat takashi in lil tokyo at la when i was shopping!
beat ruled. one fo my fav. dvd collection. beat takashi's movies are good cuhs his vision is deep and it has its feelings. for instance... he dies alot on the movies he write. lol. you dont see a good guy die off these days. and what he portrays has its truth in some of his movies. i can go on forever but i will stop. he should have won the world grammy

you should also check out the lone wolf and cub (baby cart assassin) series...plus yojimbo as zatoichi and yojimbo meet up in yojimbo meets zatoichi.....these are all eatern westerns

Finally checked out this movie last night and wow was I impressed. Great entertainment, superb directing and acting from Takeshi, a genius. Very impressive, maybe the best samurai movie I have watched alongside The Last Samurai.

Beat Takeshi rocks, great movie once again!

I have a few of the zatoichi movies and I love them.

The new blind swordsman movie is great. I loved it. It made 3 stars on my movie list, which is VERY hard.

The only weird part is that there is a transvestite but the part is played so well it was easy to get over the weirdness. Grade A flick.
