Frank Falenczyk (Ben Kingsley) loves his job. He just happens to be the hit-ma...n for his Polish mob family in Buffalo, New York. But Frank's got a drinking problem and when he messes up a critical assignment that puts the family business in peril, his uncle (Philip Baker Hall) sends him to San Francisco to clean up his act. Played with gruff charm by Kingsley, Frank is not a touchy-feely kind of guy, but things begin looking up for him. He starts going to AA meetings and gets a job at a mortuary where he falls for the tart-tongued Lauren (Téa Leoni) who is devoid of boundaries and clearly not mourning her step dad's sudden passing. Meanwhile, things aren't going well in Buffalo where an upstart Irish gang is threatening the family business. When violence erupts, Frank is forced to return home and with an unlikely assist from Lauren, faces old rivals on new terms.

Stylishly directed by John Dahl (Rounders, The Last Seduction), 'You Kill Me' is the story of what happens when two mismatched people find a common calling.

======================================================

Laura: What are you thinking about, sitting there all... serious?...
Frank: People I've harmed.
Laura: You mean killed?
Frank: Well, eventually. That's not the point. I mean harmed. People I've killed badly, because I was drunk.
Like Carol Whittyer. I was supposed to slit her throat, she moved, I got her in the eye.
I don't regret killing them, just killing them badly.

Another great little gem for a quiet night. There is little action, lots of dry humour and the Marcelo Zarvos tune played throughout the film (and heard at the linked film home page) gives it a European comedy feel. If you're in the mood for a good black comedy, I would recommend you pick this one up.

I don't know what it was about this post but I went out and rented this movie one day later and actually enjoyed it. Ben Kingsley is amazing.
