Wow! Rented this movie last night and really liked it. It's the story of the Wonderland Murders in LA in 1981 that porn-star John Holmes was involved in. It's not about Holmes' life as a porn-star, but what happened afterwards. It's a crime story where the viewer sees two different depictions of the same event and must try to decipher which is true.

Val Kilmer stars as John Holmes and plays the part incredibly well. The editing of the film was really crisp and, in my opinion, pretty original. The pace is pretty quick and since the movie is short (99 mins), it keeps you intrigued the entire time. Definitely worth the cost of a rental - even from Blockbuster.

Cant wait to watch this, heard very good things, and as always Val Kilmer never really disappoints. So it has nothing at all to do with his porn star life just based around the murders then? Either way should be good.

Mostly about drugs and killing, two good topics imo. Very little to do with the 15" wang.

in all honesty even by his own account it was more like 10 but it was a good movie, I reccomend the 2 disc set if for no other reason but the documentary on the other disc,

I saw this movie in the cinema tonight (UK) and i fucking loved it. I will definately be buying the DVD when its out!

i wanted to see this movie when it first came out- something about the coming attractions just drew me into it.

i completely forgot about it. based on your review, i'll definitely have to rent it soon.

quite an enjoyable film that, unlike many of the other retro themed releases seen in recent years, does not place an emphasis on nor require the blatant inclusion of cultural artefacts and music in order to be cool.

I loved this as well. I didn't know too much about it going in, I'd never even heard of John Holmes...

This film was amazing. I really enjoyed pretty much everything about it. Definitely go out and rent it :)

CB :)

i havent seen it...im still waiting to buy the DVD! But i know everything about it and i just KNOW it is going to be in my all time favorite movie list EVER! Right up there with the Salton Sea =) Val Kilmer rawks!!! Plus i just love movies set in the decadent yet debauched seventies ......this is going to be super entertaining for me and i cant wait :(

Strange thing to say when you havent seen it - but believe me you will like it!

On the whole I thought Wonderland did a better job of portraying Holmes than did Boogie Nights. I enjoyed Boogie Nights also, but moreso for the way the movie satirized the 70's porn/glam scene rather its whitewashed semi-biographical sketch of Holmes...

I also thought Val Kilmer gave another fine performance...imo Kilmer and Edward Burns are currently the two most underrated American male actors. I would also include Johnny Depp in that category if everyone didn't already agree he was vastly underrated...which means he's not underrated anymore.

This was like the 'offical' Boogie Nights. Val Kilmer did a good job even though it was very similar to his Jim Morrison in Oliver Stones "The Doors." A good film nonetheless with a good story(the Wonderland murders) that was a long time in the making to become a film.

thats exactly what i thought of kilmer's preformance too ^. way too similar in many places to the morrison role. at first i thought it was the voice and hair but i believe it was more... he just didnt seem to carve out a new character for this one.
over all i rate this film on the side of the alright to pretty entertaining part of the scale. at first i didnt like the use of newspaper-like montage interludes or the spilt screen parts but they grew on me.
