Here is another film about life on the Great Steppe. It brings to attention ways of life so alien to most people that they are bound to be interesting.
The film is about forbidden love and stillborn sheep. Yes.
A Kazakh sailor returns to the Steppe with hopes of living the nomadic life, but only if he marries. His love, Tulpan (which we actually never see), doesn't want him. He is unable to handle pastoral duties easily.
Typical of Kazakh film, this one feels like a hybrid of documentary, drama, and comedy.
Definitely worth watching, if for no reason then just to get a glimpse of a way of life so totally alien to most of us.
