Wow, I am surprised that so many people thought this movie was ok... nobody that I've talked to about it liked it. As for me, I watched about 3/4 of it until I just couldn't stand it anymore, it bored the fuck out of me.
They completely butchered Homer, but you have to expect that. A movie and a book, in this case actually an orally transmitted mythology, can't be the same and you shouldn't expect them to be. Granted, it would have been hard to completely screw up the Iliad, but the director did a pretty good job.
Things I Didn't Like
No gods? Lame.
No Hephaestus' armor? Lame.
The scene with Aeneas? One of the lamest things I have ever seen.
Where was Diomedes?
The acting was terrible.
The dialogue was terrible.
The director miscast every single major character. I don't think I've ever seen that happen in a movie before.
Contrived love stories. Briseis being deflowered was kind of cool though.
Things I Did Like
The action sequences. The wide shots on the razing of Troy were neat-o and panning on huge armies is always fun. The fleet was cool.
The Trojan Horse. Achilles' death was incredibly lame, but the Trojan Horse was cool.
Brad Pitt was the total wrong actor, but Achilles is just so bad ass that he was still bad ass. Also, I understand they're Greeks, but Patroclus isn't supposed to be a pansy.
Basically, the movie stunk unless someone was fighting someone else. Then it was watchable. Even the funeral scenes were listless and boring, except for possibly the last one.
