I highly recommend going to see Troy!!! I just got back from checkin this flick out, and it was excellent- much better than I had expected! Brad Pitt was amazing (as was the rest of the cast, but WOW)! The battle scenes and individual fight scenes were spectacular and well put together!

I'll even admit that my emotions were ripping me apart on this one! No, I didn't break into tears, but was close many times...

Go check it out if you're able!

what were some of the critics points?

i know, for me, it was difficult to like some of the main characters... Paris (Bloom) and Achilles (Pitt) in particular.

there was a contrived love plot that I thought should have been handled differently. (for spoiler sake, i won't reveal why)

aside from that... CGI was perfect ... use in all those extras ... brilliant ... whatever [edit] made the non-warrior male costumes deserve a fuckin' medal... *swoon*

it's an excellent movie. there are simply some things about it that was weak. I don't think it instilled the tear-jerker response that it could have gotten...

and there wasn't enough irony.

movies like that... you should have at least one despicable villain die with some irony.

MO, of course.

but i definitely recommend it.

I saw this movie last night and I really enjoyed the battle scenes. In regards to the acting... well, I really liked the battle scenes.

I thought the dialogue was absolutely terrible. I couldn't take it seriously.

The love scenes weren't convincing in the least. Except maybe Achilles and his lover when they first encounter one another.

It was entertaining... and stops there for me.

Saw this last night at the movies. Pretty damn good, although not as "tight" a movie as , say, Gladiator, it was very entertaining and as far as greek tragedies go, i must say, this one sure goes round full fuckin circle! Except for a few cheesy lines (immortality, take it? its YOURS? said with a pitt surfer dude accent that just threatens to roll off his tongue!? but anyway...) Eric Bana and Pete o Toole were excellent...i shed tears during their scenes. (yes, i cry like a baby in ALL movies. so sue me!) I kept expecting Orlando Bloom to grow long blonde hair and elf ears though...he does play the part of Paris rather blandly. Brad Pitt...my god.....he probably has the tastiest nude side view/butt angle view/lower lip view of any male actor i know. Damn they didnt show any full frontal nudity!And that hair....jennifer aniston should be very afraid and start bearing his children NOW because Pitts godly looks and heavenly body deserve to be replicated in the form of heirs. My only complaint is the choice of actresses for the entire movie. Totally mediocre an blah looking, nothing great, ho hum. Sheesh. THey could have gotten a better looking Helen of Troy too. (i mean, she looks good yes, but there are so many more stunning European actresses the production couldve picked! Like...like Monica Bellucci for chrissakes! (pun not intended).. But then again, maybe they didnt have any budget left for the women since the men *drooools* ate most of it up . Watch it on the bigscreen!
 
I didn't like it. (I've been saying that alot lately, haven't I?)

Since when do battles that involve thousands of people suddenly stop to watch two guys fight to decide whatto do next?
I'm not talking about challenges, but in mid battle, all of a sudden there's only two guys fighting, one wins, then everyone still standing decide to go back to start over in the morning. This happens TWICE in the movie!

I counted 7 seperate scenes in the first hour alone where someone talks about being remembered through the ages. SEVEN TIMES IN SIXTY MINUTES. That's more than once every 10 minutes! Like these people would have any concept of 3000 years! Shit, we still don't!

Brad Pitt's first fight with that tree trunk of a man (were steroids available 3000 years ago?) was nice. I liked the fx in that.

I'm happy to say the aussies did good. Both Eric Bana and Rose Byrne were solid.

I didn't have high expectations for this as I'm not a fan of Wolfgang Petersons previous two films, The Perfect Storm and Air Force One, but I was still rather let down. Maybe I should pay more attention to movies before paying to see them. I hope Wolfgang drops out of the Batman vs Superman project.

They put that in there because in the legend that's the reason why achilles originally went to fight.
 
yeah, i feel as if i hadn't read the iliad already i would have loved it. but as it stands, i think they did an alright job putting the story on the big screen...coulda been better though. i thought the music was uninspiring. don't like how the left out so much and changed a lot as well, but it was a huge task to do this movie in less than 3 hrs, so i guess it's not bad considering. overall i'd say go watch it, but i was disappointed.
 
nb. I said I didn't like it. I didn't say it was bad. I've seen a hell of alot worse.
 
Certainly there were some cheesy parts, but overall I enjoyed the film and felt entertained. Brad Pitt's Achilles was pretty impressive in battle form and the CGI work was excellent. Then again, with the amount of money they forked over to make this, that's no surprise. I wouldn't go as far as saying the battle scenes ranked as well as say Braveheart, but some of the scrolling shots of the massive armies are remarkable.

Indeed it is an Epic-quality film, though I do feel the story is a bit more on the lighter side of content than I would've expected from a Wolfgang Petersen Film. For a film as long as it is, it didn't really feel that long as I didn't really notice any drag at all.

For once it was great to hear all the actors and actresses use their normal voices. ;) I had to chuckle a little when the Aussie accent was busted out in Troy. Also, I would've liked to see a death scene for the "Gods expert" of Troy. =D

were you referring to my post? cuz i didn't say you said it was bad, just that i thought it was not bad. i was agreeing with amor's post about how the stuff you didn't like about it was actually in the story, and then i went on to say what i thought about the film...though it probably wasn't apparent enough...
 
Yeah, the best I can say about it is that is was entertaining. Brad Pitt is trying to do his version of Gladiator. If Troy had been released prior to Gladiator, it would have been great. But with that high a standard set, it was left lacking.

Not terrible, not the best movie ever, just stuck somewhere in the middle.

Okay..I am drunk right now so I am gonna do this the best I can..

I saw this Saturday..

*My biggest complaint would be the way the left the GODS out of the story..the Gods play a huge part in this story..I understand why they had to change it to make it fit into a movie..but still...

*The movie really should have shown more [email protected] Bloom, Brad Pitt, Diane whats-her-face..all fine specimins which I would have liked to see more of...

*Something I REALLY liked about this film: I thought it was interesting, how in this movie, unlike so many other epic-big-battle kinda films, there are not really "good guys" and "bad guys" in this one..during the entire movie I found myself relating to the character they were showing at each moment, and not really knowing who to "root for" so to speak..this film was done in a way that it was like "this is what happened" and it all just unfolds in front of you..it's amazing and sad but it happens..and you are never quite sure who you want to win...

Overall I give this movie three stars..I was certainly entralled....

Anyways, I saw this film and after being a pretty big fan of the Iliad (reading it etc.) I have come to the conclusion that this movie is pretty inaccurate. Some characters die in different ways than in the book AND some don't even die, they kind of just "nod off" the set and out of the movie... hmmm

Otherwise, it was an overall pretty decent flick if your not a bitch who picks things apart and finds things wrong with everything like me... so heh yeah

Eric Bana - star performance, Brad Pitt - Superb

Film was a little disturbing as the sad ending was inevitable, just brings to the surface what happens in war, and the epic battles between warlords and kings who hold great power and the losers who they conquer...

Overall highly recommended for entertainment purposes...much better than gladiator

You obviously never read the Illiad...THAT WAS WHAT HALF THE BOOK WAS>

I love how all these critics of movies judge it before they even know what its based on.
