Oh my lord. I stumbled on this movie on the Sci Fi channel one day and was comepletely blown away as far as the visual cinematography and message this movie was conveying.

It's by George Lucas and has Donald Pleasence as a supporting role, though I do forget the main role. It takes place in the future and it shows humans you mandantorilly take drugs in order to be under control through higher societal heirarchie's all for the sake of industry and capitalist effeciancy.

This is a movie you DO NOT want to see while high as the images are simply stunning and the story telling is in such a visualy complex and brutal form that you will have to turn you're head. Though, this movie is not for every one. Only those who "get it" will appreciate it's art.

Not many people heard of this movie, and I think it's probably one of the most under rated film work in todays age.
 
They played this film after a party that I went to in London that was in an old cinema. It did look stunning, but I really wasn't in much of a state to take it in properly. Was more concerned about why my friend was asking the wall what had happened to his spreadsheets and the phone off his desk... :/

I'd like to watch it again though
 
Yeah, there are lots of references for this film in Lucas' later work. The one I can remember off the top of my head is that the prisoners on the death star are held in cell block 1138. There's something about a wookie over the radio in one of the car chases in THX 1138 too...
 
It's a fantastic movie! I think I saw it coming down off shrooms the first time, or at least quite stoned =D

It's really deep in many ways, to me it speaks of the logical end of consumerism and our current value system in society: everyone ends up being the same buying the same products and going to the same god with the same questions to get the same answers. I think the Jesus cubicle was the coolest touch in the entire movie!

It's not really about drugs, imho, but about freedom, individuality, and what goals we want to set ourselves as a future society - because however we muddle through today will inevitably lead to a new form of society in the future - not necessarily a good one.

Oh, and Robert Duvall starred in it :)

thx1138 was lucas film school project. he later remaid it as a semi hollywood sleeper hit. i like this movie i think the cinemarograpy is wicked. ill defeintly see it when it gets re-released
 
I'd have to agree with the agreeing of the awesomeness of this movie. I was pretty much speachless at the end of it. and these were pre pothead/space cadet days
 
Was this film ever re-released? I know I heard about the re-release but I guess I might have missed it. I sure hope someone got to see this in the theatre, all that white...
 
Alright movie, certainly wasn't blown away like the rest of ya seemed to have been. Either way it had some redeeming qualities and would recommend it to someone looking for pure entertainment.
