MynameisnotDeja, i totally agree with what you were saying about "evies' mannerisms, they actually almost made me uncomfortable seeing a young girl seem so womanly and wordly, it was very confronting. I gave my mum hell when I was probebly 15-16 and alot of mother-daughter scenes in that movie made me cringe. But saying that I never dressed like that, did drugs, or really most of that stuff she did, just spoke teribly to mum. I think the relation ship was protrayed accurately and I don't think you were supposed to have sympythy for any one chracter, I think it showed in a way the complexities of female relationships.
I mean turning 13 is hard enough for some girls but to throw in adult experiences with that, its enough to mess with anyones head. I think to say that just because 13 years olds are more likely to keep there friends close because of drug use is unrealistic. When it comes down to it most 13 year olds need there family, and on some level crave their trust and acceptence blaming a mate for the bud found in their bedroom always seems like a good idea at the time.
Evie uses her looks to manipulate cos thats what she see's as her strength, it interesting to aknowledge that a girl that looks like that would not have much of a chance of being treated or having any different expectations of turning out any other way. Having the attentions of boys 4 or 5 years older than her obvously isent healthy but this was a girl craving attention and affection and not really worried were it came from.
The fickleness totally reminded me of my early high school years, when you'd make plans to go to someones house for the weekend, call them up and the'd tell you "oh kates staying here now" etc etc. Its funny that kinda crap happend to everyone, and its a shame how awful girls can be to each other.
I enjoyed the film but it also scared the shit out of me, that they are young girls out there like that, call me ignorant, but i find it a bit sad.
