no thread for this flick yet so why not? %)

same year as the matrix, and similar premise: humans in an artificial world.

i prefer this to the matrix, however, because of it's focus on realism.

yes, realism. this is a sci-fi movie that i can actually believe may happen within our lifetime.

the story is about a computer mainframe that can simulate a real world complete with characters who have been programmed so real that they've assumed full consciousness and exist in the programmed world as humans exist on the real earth. the only problem with the simulation is that it has limitations... and realizing your whole existence has been faux is a pretty difficult thing to come to terms with.

anyway it gets pretty predictable, and the acting is pretty shite, but the story alone is quite amazing and i wouldnt mind seeing it again.
