I thought that it was good, but that they could have done a lot more with the personalities of the main characters. I don't mean to sound snobby like is mentioned above, but the characters just seemed a bit 2 dimensional. I did enjoy it though.

i was also strangly turned on and touched by this movie. it was certainly an alternative love story with a happy ending. it shows that even people who have alternative sex lives and are turned on by different things can and deserve to find love and be in a successful relationship.

however, i agree that the individual characters could have been further developed.

i finally saw this movie after being told about it repetitively. THis movie is so sexy and just plain awsome.i really like how it wasnt really about S&M. It was about two people making sense together. S&M was just something that facilitated how they felt about each other. But they grew individually together which is so important in a relationship. I LOVE this movie lol its so beautiful. my only problem was towards the end with the whole media coverage situation. that kinda brought down the movie. but still i love this movie.

wonderful movie.
the turn on- (for most girls in this thread) the spanking was just foreplay for me... i enjoyed then next real bent over the desk time
niether are true blue sub or dom but they find eachother and find happiness and its wonderful
i can see why it wasnt released big time in theaters and such i dont know how many people not in the sence or on the fringe and such would not find this to be over the top (without understanding) or too slow

Well I've finally seen it and I gave the movie four stars. I found this movie very touching and it made me laugh, which makes it perfect in my books.

I was very impressed by Maggie Gyllenhaal as well. I'm going to watch out for more films with her in them.

I love the theme that she finds strength in deciding to become a submissive. Choosing this lifestyle is actually what makes her a strong person and makes her assert herself. It challenges your perceptions about what that lifestyle is about. Top stuff.

i loved this movie! it was a truely fresh approach to a social/sexual taboo i.e not decrying it but rather trying to showcase honestly a lifestyle that most of us never act out but prolly think about from time to time... more importantly it let the lifestyle exist as a subplot or backdrop which left room for a real film about dynamic characters, not just a compilation of cliches

i loved the way this film looked. use of color in the law office and even in the characters wardrobe gave off a definite vibe. lots of deep dark powerful colors in the office reiterated teh theme of dominance and @ the same time a kind of comfort / safety.

i need to watch this again, its been too long
