We'll, whatever makes it past the mods at least.

"The New Bluelight is an international message board that educates the public about responsible drug use (with a focus on MDMA) by promoting free discussion. "
At least that's what it says on the mission statement.

stu you really need to have more hardcore facts b4 you start debating this issue w/ catholics. the facts of the movie are not faulty per catholic belief. the way the movie slanted towards absolving romans and blaming jews is certainly contraversial but the facts have not been changed (per catholic belief)

Not sure what you mean by "catholic belief." The church since Vatican II rejects the notion that the jews were responsible. Does the church not represent "catholic belief."

As far as looking to the gospels, well I dont want to start a war but they are very inconsistent (for starters, if you try and make a timeline of events based on the gospels and what we know from history-youll see its impossible. No to mention all of the express contradictions.) You can find in the gospels what you want.

I am not trying to put down christianity/catholocism and frankly, if you want to believe that jews killed the literal son of g-d who was born to a virgin, that is your right-just dont tell me that saying the jews killed jesus is not asking for anti-semetic action from nutcases.

Besides, as I have said a whole lot-I really dislike Mel Gibson-so if someone else had produced the movie-maybe I give him/her the benefit of the doubt (although probably not becuse the jews were almost caricatures and the romans were practically Forced in2 crucifying jesus. Plus, the high priest says that jews AND THEIR CHILDREN are responsible for jesus death in the movie (albeit in secret as the subtitles disappear).

Anyway, believe what you want. And I hate myself for these posts because religious christians in America are some of the Jews best friends- and share many of the same values I do so I am loathe to criticize christianity in any form-but this movie (and the churchs' embrace of it as if it was delivered from heaven) really got under my skin.

To a christian, watching him be eviscerated in such a graphic way is tantamount to seeing their own mother, kitten, little boy (or any other patheticly innocent proper noun) enduring such a beating.

ehhh, not quite Lingo

Watching him being whipped, scourged, punched, spit at, then nailed to a tree to shut him up reminds me of what I do to him when I want my sin.

What would you do to Jesus if he were standing between you and your bag of meth?

I really don't see this movie as a big deal, once again I will say that Mel stirreed up this controversy to get the most bang for the buck for this movie. There is nothing revealing and nothing new shown in it, it just follows the strory as told by the bible what is the big deal about it ???

i think i pretty much agree.

i'm sure mel is a devout christian but i also think he knew fine well that the controversy stirred by this movie would put a shit load of cash in his pocket (he also produced the movie).

i suspect that he also knew that he could sidestep any particularly nasty criticism by conveniently claiming he was simply relating the 'facts' as told in the bible.

I'm not Christian, but a devout friend of mine had the same experience. She said that when she watched the scourging scene she felt as if it were her "sin" that was punishing Jesus, not the Romans. I can't identify, but hey, different strokes...

I thought this was a great movie. And of course there is gonna be violence. This movie is showing what happened to Jesus and how he was cruely tortured and mocked. How are you gonna show that and have no violence? This movie isn't just for anybody. And is too graphic for young children. But if you arn't weak minded and can handle the truth and the realness of it all then go watch it.

No matter what anyone thinks of the movie, as I mentioned from the start, Mel is raking in HUGE CA$H from this $300 Million only 4 weeks running ? And ALL of it goes to him ! WOW! Genius.

;)

This is one of the most moving pieces of cinema I have ever experienced. So powerful that I actually had tears in my eyes everytime Jesus was hit, I could honestly say that I felt his pain. I have always believed in it but never been TOO religous, though it really made me think deeper.

Not to go into too much detail, acting was brilliant, direction was amazing, well done Mel Gibson, this movie should really change us hopefully.

Great stuff!

Also, this whole Barabas vs Jesus thing- I have done some research (albeit not exhaustive) and I can not find any historical evidence of what the gospels claim was a traditional prisoner release.

Mark 15:6
At every Passover Festival Pilate was in the habit of setting free any one prisoner the people asked for.

(i love disturbing images)

If you think that's disturbing, watch Cannibal Holocaust.
That film definitely wins the most disturbing film award!

I'm not a religious fanatic, but the film was definitely moving to me. You could tell other people in the theater felt the same way because when the credits started rolling, 90% of the people stayed in their seat until the very end. Any yes, I know MG is making mega cash of this but I still thought it was good.

Dawn of the Dead just knocked this movie out of its #1 spot this week. lol.. See its not Jesus.. its just the gore we're interested in.

um, I said "other than the gospels." Outside of Christian writings, there is no evidence there ever was a traditional prisoner release.
