^^very informative post:) [lol meant for the longer one]

you and i seem to have the same background. I was raised in a strict catholic home. I attended catholic school and over the years i have discarded each and every shred of oppressive dogma ever instilled in me. I am very very intruiged by this film but am possibly going to avoid it due to the warnings about gore. i really cannot stomach that kind of movie.

what has killed me is the controversy around this film. christians are WAY to excited and jews are WAY too offended. im totally grossed out by churches buying out theaters and using this as an evangelical platform. lol if Mel fucking Gibson is your trump card, i think im gonna take my chances with the devil. i understand it must be a powerful film but this seems like a cheap way to line their pockets via some new recruits.

i'd be really interested to hear from any jewish blers who saw the picture. were you offended by the portrayal of the jews as the killers of christ? did it seem at all to you that film was set to deamonize jews?

Even if this is exactly how the Catholic church feels the crusifiction happen, I don't think any kids should be watching this.

remember now it's a film, not a documentary. i do worry however that the filmakers' motivation for perhaps over-dramatizing the violence.

the use of modern church latin rather than classical latin pronunciations is anembarrasment and an easily avoidable mistake. Nervertheless, I intend to see it, if for no other reason than to be upset on a very visceral (literaly) level.

I highly doubt I'm going to see this movie (maybe on DVD), but what I want to know is how does Mel Gibson financing a project he felt strongly about make him a fanatic?

I know he has some strange, probably old fashioned, religious views. But, I don't hear people calling other actors fanatics when they finance their own pet projects (which are usually self indulgent pieces of indy arthouse shit), does the fact that the movie is about a religious/mythology/semi-historical event automatically make it worthy of scorn?

In my opinion, the "official" Jewish response to this entire issue has been a tremendous embarassment. For the past two weeks I've been subjected to watching what by now must be every Rabbi in the Northeastern US practically begging the nation not to take this movie at face value. I sincerely doubt that anyone will go into the theater with a positive or neutral view of Jews and come out ready to rally a mob & burn the local synagouge. This movie will not "create" anti-semites, all it will do is serve to validate the opinions of those who are already openly or quietly anti-semitic.

The same guy who walks out of the theater ready to rally a mob & torch the local synagogue is the same guy who will argue that "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion" makes some very valid points. Will listening to 27 interviews with Rabbis & Proffesors of Judaic Studies change what this afforementioned person gets out of the movie? The only thing accomplished by groveling before the Christian community is to give the impression that Jews have something to hide or that we carry some sort of collective guilt about Jesus's execution. Had Jews wanted to actually do something about the situtaion other than rolling out the standard bitch & moan campaign they could used some of the very real power wielded in Hollywood to to squeeze Gibson & his interests financially, thereby discouraging further projects of this nature. But no...watching Rabbi Cohen beg people to not see the film is probably much more effective...it's certainly much more degarding.

By the way...on a side note...I just wanted to give ya'll a heads up on the whole "It wasn't us!! It was the Romans!!" story. That's 2000 years of spin & PR. When the doors close we put on our yarmulkas, drink the blood of a few Christain children & recount the real story of Jesus's execution. Basically the truth is this: We Fucked that Nigga Up!!!!! Lil Bitch shoulda kept his mouth shut...instead he went off flappin his "turn the other cheek" crap & pissed off the wrong people. Motherfucka wasn't turning water into wine after gettin a couple nails in his hands was he? You mighta noticed that for the the last 2000 years Jesus is always "coming back" but never shows up? Ever wonder why? Because he knows! He knows he can't be comin back around Jerusalem anymore....he knows he got strung up once and if anyone sees him around again, motherfucka gonna get fucked up again! And there ain't gonna be a 3'rd coming...believe that!

That's the real story...go ahead ask your Jewish friends....right before they deny it you'll see that astonished look in their eyes as if to say "you're not supposed to know that!" Just please don't tell them where you read it...the global Zionist conspiracy deals harshly with leaks. ;)

Well, I can't believe it's come to this! Jesus- The Movie. :D

I heard on a TV news report that so many hundred thousand bibles have just been printed up to coincide with the release of this film. The marketing slogan is "You've seen the movie, now read the book."

To think that a church would advocate the sensationalism of Hollywood in order to put asses on pues is not only pathetic, it's the definition of propaganda.

It seems like a sure sign that the Catholic church (and the rest of Christianity with it) is hanging in there by a very small thread.

There are good and bad examples of all religions. I happen to be a bad Christian. Not the worst or most hypocritical, but I've probably sinned already today according to the laws of my religion. Still trying though.

But being a Christian, I fail to see excessive violence or anti-semitism as part of this movie. Jesus being God in the form of man sent to be a sacrifice for the sins of man, the pain he endured is mine to own (as in my responsibility). He just took it for me. To take ownership of the cross is just to be accountable, to a very small degree.

And... it was pre-destined, so if the Jews played their part to fulfill a prophesy then that's no reason to hate them.

Now when they serve bacon on a bagel - that's a little disturbing, but that's a totally different issue and Mel Gibson didn't put that in the flick...

^ Weird, I typed something similar to that this morning and saved it, so I could add a few things...so here it is:

I thought, in a sense, this movie 'could' be Catholicism propaganda to some extent. Maby not towards complete athiests, but more towards people who have a light Catholic background or who maby are non-practicing Catholics. I may be playing devil's advocate for saying this because of my background, but this definitely crossed my mind after watching the movie. I think that if the violence, blood, and gore was overdone in this movie it was to attract people back to the Catholic faith. No one that I know had ever invisioned Jesus suffering to the extent that he did in this movie. I think this movie makes people feel sorry for Jesus. It's two hours of Jesus getting violently and graphically tortured! Don't you think this would make some people want to get back with the church? Maby feel sorry for Jesus, and want to give him more respect, ecspecially if they have a Catholic background....they'd feel obligated!

Another reason I say this is because it seems to me that ALL Catholics seem to be supporting this movie! I was real suprised by this after seeing the movie. The Catholic church has such strong beliefs against violent movies and video games yet they support the most violent movie I have ever seen! For the most part I could care less, but I am just suprised that I haven't seen ANY Catholics (and I know a lot) question the violence in this movie, or think that some of the actions and violence in the movie was a bit overdone. I would have thought that this would be a very contraversal movie between all Catholics, in other words I'm suprised that what seems like %100 of all Catholics support this movie. I would have thought that you'd have some churches teaching against this movie while others are telling everyone to see it! I just hope I never hear the Catholic church bitch about a violent video game or movie if they let their kids see this! From what the church has said about this movie I won't be suprised if we see a Jesus action figure come out anytime soon!

But, if you read my post above I did enjoy this film. This is one film that is DEFINITELY better than it's book! ;)

well I skipped class today in hopes that the 1pm showing wouldn't be sold out, it was, oh well, I'll try to catch it next week after the crowds die down.

what I find strange but this is just me, is what one of those fox news guys said the other day, a Movie made Pro Jesus gets one group excitied and one group angry, A Movie Made Not so Pro Jesus, example, Last Temptation and take the group excitied and make them angry , take the group upset and make them excitied. Its like either way nobody is gonna be happy. I consider myself very spiritual. I choose to believe in God and Jesus and that he died for my sins. not perfect, never have been never will be. I for one am excitied to see this movie. though I totally understand that this is not everyones cup of tea. but to incite such angry emotions in people amazes me. its just a movie of what Mel Gibson has precevied from the gospels. thats it nothing more.

this film is getting so much attention. i don't plan on seeing it in the theater, although i will probably watch it when it comes out on video.

yesterday, a long island catholic hs, kellenberg, marched all 1,500 students 3 miles to the movie theater to watch 'passion'. they carried large crosses. it must have been quite a sight.
