Based on true events.
"A psychological thriller that revolves around the celebrated writer and popular late-night radio show host, Gabriel Noone, who develops an intense relationship with a young listener named Pete and his adopted mother, just as his own domestic life is undergoing changes. When a troubling question arises regarding the boy's identity, it causes Gabriel's ordered existence to spin wildly out of control as he sets out on a harrowing journey to find the truth." - Yahoo Movies
I didn't know Macaulay Culkin had a brother.
This is one of the slowest films I've watched in a while.
Unless I'm forgetting one, this is the first gay role I've seen Williams play. It is unfortunate that it had to be in such a dud of a film. The whole thing reminded me of Misery... in slow motion. The monotonous repetitive score didn't help things either. Repetitive musical scores work for some films - like The Illusionist, which I also saw recently - but not for this one. When you're noticing people fidgeting around restlessly in their seats more than you are the action on the screen, there is something missing... from the screen.
Two stars out of five. Two more than it deserves only thanks to Williams' presence.
P.S. I should have read the book first, as I'm sure that would have been an excellent read in comparison and I would have perhaps been left with a better residual impression overall. I'm going to let some time pass and then pick up a copy of Armistead Maupin's print at the library.
edit: Apparently Williams played a gay nightclub owner in The Birdcage. I stand corrected.
