@sixpartseven

That's what I thought was near impossible. Especially after he missed a still target at the same distance. It really wasn't a deal-breaker for me though, the movie was AWWEESOMEE ;)

I don't usually watch war films and if I do, I generally don't like them.

This, however, transcends it's genre beautifully.

Still I think it's slightly over-rated.

3.5 or 4/5
I feel the same way. Fantastic realism, but i think this compromised the dramatic element too much. 4/5

see, i don't have cable, nor do i pay attention to the oscars or the buzz around hollywood movies. i'd never heard of this until i saw this thread, and the positive feedback sealed the deal.

i must say....freaking awesome.
it had lighter moments, and even some funny parts.

like
NSFW:
where they're dragging the taxi driver away and he goes "well, if he wasn't an insurgent, he is now"

and i saw in the comments on the trailer about this being racist...it may not be totally accurate per say, but fuck. watch three kings. i learned like 4 new racist terms for middle eastern people from that film alone.

Very decent movie.

Completely suspenseful without being over the top.

Didn't seem to have any overriding political agenda.

For me its on the contrary, the realism is exactly what heightened my sense of drama and emotional response. Whenever movies manipulate reality to increase drama or potentiate the plot, I am reminded that its just a story, and I kind of lose my connection to it. Kind of like when a lover is trying too hard, and you lose the mojo.

4-4.5 / 5.

^i hear what you're saying and i agree with that strong emotive response. what i mean, the lack of narrative structure is a little unsatisfying for me. there were no strong "acts" to the story, and so felt like it was just this happens and then this happens and then this happens and then this. sure, it's more like real life, but for a piece of entertainment, this approach i find somewhat lacking.

The lack of narrative is representative of the soldier's (or at least the main characters) experience. It focuses on the missions day to day.

thanks captain obvious. i was just saying that there are pros and cons to that.
