It was a miniseries on the BBC in the early 80s . . . I've got it on tape, real Dr. Who-ish, but its like twenty five year old british television, too, so that can be overlooked . . . pretty well done considering.

I used to watch it on PBS here in the states. That AND Dr. Who.

Hopefully the movie will be just as good if not better. :)

You guys should try to find the original BBC radio broadcast from 1981 on eMule, it has some amazing voice actors and the entire broadcast is exceptionally well done.

It's pretty much the same actors as the TV series.

one of my favorites....I can't wait to see how this comes out. Though Mos Def as Ford Prefect has me intrigued...not necessarily who I would have pictured in such a role....

Kudos to Jennings on the "Coffee and TV" music video... I'm quite excited for this film. =)

So yeah... I thought I was cool and way ahead of the times when started a Hitchhicker's Guide thread... I even did a search. I guess if whoever started this thread spelled "hitchhicker" correctly I wouldn't have had to deal with such humiliation.

And the new ones :)

See here for details.

The tertiary phase was broadcast September last year and the next series is due up sometime this year, featuring the original cast (with a couple of exceptions for those who had sadly passed away), and even a cameo by Douglas Adams as Agrajag.

It really brought a smile to my face hearing that theme music on the radio again :)

And thanks to Radio4's website, I have the series on mp3 too ....

I'm excited for it. I think a preview/promo trailer doesn't really do it justice.
I think its going to be a great film. Maybe even a classic.

Realistically it might achieve some sort of cult status.
I hope they dont deviate too much from the book in terms of dialogue.

It doesnt really matter though because the first book doesnt even cover the most funniest portion in literature ever. The mattress planet from life the Universe and Everything. http://jpgrdnr.netfirms.com/mattress2.pdf

i watched the trailer this past weekend, and my friend got all snippy- "zaphod has two heads in the book", so i had to play the thing for him again and show the very brief spot where you see zaphod's other head.

i'm really excited for this flick, like a young girl waiting for a new kids on the block concert back in the day.

I think its going to be an idiot comedy sketch extended for 2 hours.
Hopefully it has sense to reference itself as a movie (i.e "Trapped in a Movie and I can't get out") At least I HOPE it captures the level of humor in the first book and the absurdity of Adams' mind.

I think they may have taken a good kick at the can though.

*shudder* I was at the cinema, the trailer came on, and people around me (not my friends) didn't know what it was!

They hadn't seen the miniseries or read the books or anything. Hadn't even heard of the books or miniseries *sigh*

Our world is falling apart :P

it will never beat the BBC series... that thing was just perfect, and had so many good special effects...

Woah, the dude from the office, he must be good. Somrthing thats funny is that bil baily actually ayditioned as marvin, but they cast him as slartibartfast. Thank god they didnt cast hugh grant in the film, they wnated him and bill nighy as slartibartfast, but bill bailey should be better. Everything about hitch-hiker is awesome, and if im correct douglas adams was in two monty python sketches and wrote a few short stories with terry pratchett. KA!

Can't wait for this. Also have you guys read the fith book "Mostly Harmless" it finishes off the story and is fucking funny, Ford and Arthur find Elvis on a desert planet singing in a diber, so funny. Also adams wrote a detective series "Dirk Gently" I've been meaning to read them for ages.
