Did a search and didnt find anything. Just saw this last night and I thought it was a pretty damn good horror film. Made me jump a few times, kept me on the edge of my seat and actually gave me nightmares last night (a good thing, no horror movies EVER can do that!). I liked it a lot and recommed it to horror fans. *thumbs up*

I just got back from it. I usually like crappy horror films, but this isn't one of the ones I like. A waste of 2 hours IMO. :(

I'm sick to the back teeth of remakes!. It seems like nobody can come up with original ideas anymore!. It's just a way of making a quick buck if you ask me.
That being said, I don't see how this can be any worse than the original because that was an absolute stinker.

Remakes should only be made if the original sucks, and it seems all we've had recently is a swarm of shamelessly bad versions of films that were great to begin with.

Wow...I dont get why it would suck...what about it sucked in your opinion? To me it had everything a horror film should have...make you jump moments, gore, sympathy for the characters...I loved this movie Ive seen it twice in the theater already.

I thought it was great. :D Most horror films that ATTEMPT to keep you "on the edge" and "jumping" seem to be really cheap / cliche scares. :( poo. though this film, everything that you thought would follow in those cheap / chiche scares got pulled and turned completely around into something quite terrifying. ^.^ pretty good, close-to-intense film. :)

And I agree a bit with tribal girl. Why can't people come up with original ideas? I .. LOVE the original, though i also LOOOOOVVEE the re-makes, though it's all you're seeing nowadays. remake this, remake that... poo. though, the remakes are made like really great. though i'd love something original.

another great reason why i am going to study to become a director. ^______^ someday.. you will know the director Joshua Saona. :D

Best horror film of recent memory. I loved this movie. It was brutal, you definitely sympathize with the characters, especially the teenage girl and the Democrat Dad, and this movie was plenty gory and intense. I jumped quite a bit.

I never saw the original, but I already know this was way better.

If you like horror, then you should like this movie. I've already seen it twice also.

thumbs up!:)

I thought it was ok, I mean why did the brother and sister stay to kill off the miners and then leave . I mean First thing I would do after my whole family has been killed would be LEAVE right away. This movie was highly predictable, but It did have good gore and sick scenes.

I'm bumping this up cuz I just saw it last night. I liked it! There were some parts which could have been edited better, but overall, it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time! It was, without a doubt, the most graphic and violent movie I've seen in a really long time. And even though it is a remake, I thought it was done a lot better than most new crap out there, like those fucking Saw movies for example.

I saw it last night and it was so boring.....I was pretty damn tired when we watcthed it but basically what i got out of it:

People die
More people die
Everyone dies.

I found no plot to it....i dont see a movie to see people get killed off, like i said i was beat so i wasnt payin that much attention but it didnt do nothin for me. it seemed like their entire goal was to make it disturbing and try and put unsettling images in your head, and less attention to makin it a actually good, entertaining movie whose plot brings you in. the whole thing was like a cheap ripoff of david lynch's style and it got pretty old after a while. i bounced like 2/3 thru the movie cuz i wanted to get some rest it was like 2am so there coulda been more action later on.....i dont know, a waste of the rental fee IMO

^^
Cheap ripoff of David Lynch? I don't know what Lynch films you have seen, but The Hills Have Eyes are hardly Lynch ripoffs. It DID have a plot (even if it was a simple, formulaic one). It WAS supposed to have an unsettling look. It was a HORROR movie. David Lynch IS obtuse, The Hills Have Eyes was pretty straight forward.
It's a shame you didn't watch it all the way through. The last act is pretty good.

Hey man, if you find graphic depictions of women being violently raped while a infant child watches the whole thing totally cool and OK, good for you. I get nothing outta a movie that instead of tryna bring me in with a good intriguing story, just trys to shock and disturb me instead, not in the spine chillin horror movie way but in the "how low can you go" way. how brutal can we be how violent and twisted can we make it. how far can we take it. I feel like the shit in the movie was exploiting the viewers emotions, i dont think its cool to represent certain shit for the purpose of entertainment in a movie, they took it too far. its supposed to scare you and freak you out but to me it was like watching a home video of some sick fuck as they slowly kill a small animal by breakin its skull with rocks and cutting it up while its still alive. theres a difference between shit thats movie material and shit thats just straight fucked up, not cool to joke about, not cool to see even if its in the name of entertainment.

i dont take some of the shit they put in there lightly, it aint some shit you see then be like "hey, that was cool, anyways, lets go get somethin to eat" like nothin in there ever happened and it didnt affect you at all. if you can see this movie without it affecting you even a lil bit you gotta be pretty fucked up in the head. and i seen some fucked up movies , it aint like im against violent or fucked up movies. its good to have a "scary" feeling after a movie......if you dont feel a lil creeped out afterwards then the shit didnt do its job. but its a whole nother story when a movie just leaves you with a bad feeling afterwards...not scared.....just bad, uneasy from the shit you just been subjected to seein.

gore and violence dont offend me but the extent they took it to just made me shake my head i thought it was just pretty sad and pathetic that someone would go so far just to try and get a rise outta people, and its also sad that people in the US culture have got so desensitized to shit that it takes shit as disgusting as watching someone being violated tortured raped and murdered for people to get their thrills these days. :|

The movie was extremely tame compared to a lot of the other exploitation flicks and gratuitous horror movies out there. Many of which where made decades ago (Texas Chainsaw Massacre, I Spit On Your Grave). It's okay if some of the imigary was too intense for you, but it does not mean that anyone who accepts it as entertainment for entertainment's sake is "pretty fucked in the head". That is along the same argument that kids who play GTAIII are 75% more likely to go shoot a cop because the video game desensitized them to the point of being totaly removed from truth, reality and consequence, which is a massive cop-out. I can go watch a movie like that, or like Hostel or like Dawn of the Dead 04 and thouroughly enjoy them because I know that they are just movies. That's it. It's karo-blood, latex and grease paint. It's not real, and I am pretty sure that anyone who has worked in an ICU or dealt with someone who suffered a massive trauma like those potrayed in The Hills have Eyes would tell you that they actualy looked pretty darned fake (thank god for suspension of disbelief).

What about the horror/thriller flicks that won great critical acclaim? Silence of the Lambs? Jacobs Ladder? Am I fucked up because I thought it was cool that Lecter disemboweled a gaurd and strung him up as some sick sculpture before carving the face off another guard and wearing it like a mask to make his escape?

And if you want to talk about expoliting viewers emotions, let's talk about other big movies that did just that. Titanic, for instance, put too much stock in one dimensional, cliched stereotypical characters that were all too easy to identify as "the jealouse, schemeing boyfriend", the "poor little rich girl who really wanted to be normal" and the "uber-romantic, uber-sappy super transient with a heart of gold". These characters were there strictly to illicit reactions from the viewers. By the end of the movie you were supposed to be thinking "man I hate that Billy Zane. I hope he dies. And I sure hope that little Leo can float away to happiness with Big Kate."

Then we have a movie like "The Passion of the Christ". A movie that was made specificly to guilt trip you into going to chruch. Watching a universaly known and loved figure like Jesus being brutally tortured for two hours is just another way to exploit the viewers emotions. They might as well have put your grandmother or your favorite kitten on that cross.

As far as needing movies like that to get our thrills these days... again, do some research. You may be surprised to find that the horror/thriller genre is almost as old as cinema it's self. Rape, murder, sadistic torture... it's all there. Hell, the first motion picture ever made was Edison's version of Frankenstein. Go a few thousand years back and you have the Gladiators... REAL life and death situations with blood, gore and needless suffering abound, all for the sake of entertainment.

I think you need to stop blaming the movies and start focusing your disdain on human nature in general. If you didn't like the movie, fine, so be it, just don't keep such a self-rightous attitude about it, because I can pretty much assure you that your feelings are quite misdirected.

Besides, The Hills Have Eyes was downright tame compared to 75% of the stuff on the video store shelves. Still a good movie.

Those movies werent as graphic as hills have eyes. when rape is introduced to a plot for no point other than shock thats when i stop bein cool wit it. depticing rape to show people how real it is, to make people think or understand the reality of it, is cool. to cheaply throw it into the plot to titillate the audiences fear is low IMO.

I think you need to stop blaming the movies and start focusing your disdain on human nature in general.

Just because you don't like horror doesn't mean there is something wrong with those who do. I don't see anything wrong with people being desensitized to violent films, that doesn't make them sadists.

Yo, i know yall can read. So try doing that next time before you put words in my mouth.

I put no words in your mouth. You say it's sad people are desensitized, and I say there is nothing wrong with that.
You say gore and violence don't offend you, but it sounds like you have a limit. Some people just have a higher limit.
