^ I wasn't saying you are ignorant. If you look at it again, I was speaking more to to BA in the first excerpt you quoted by me, minus the first sentence. If you want to think I think you're ignorant, however, that is up to you.

Either way, we seem to have reached some common ground at the end of this. While not totally satisfied, I'll leave it alone.

I just might have to fork over the $8.75 to watch a movie in the theaters for the first time in years just so I can have my own fresh take on Kutcher's performance in this movie. So when does this picture hit theaters?

I bet the plot twist is that Ashton's character is the one that actually died.

And he is in a state of limbo between the conscious world and the 'after-life' however you define it. He would be in a lucid dream state, and could control 'reality' as he saw it, but it's all just a dream.

...Just a guess...

I just read some terrible reviews of this film on www.nytimes.com

Here is one sent in by a reader:

Why can't I choose no stars?, January 23, 2004

...

If anyone really doubts that we live in a culturally bereft society, please go see this movie. Then ponder the fact that, doubtlessly, morons across America will pander to Hollywood this weekend, spend lots of money that could go to feeding the poor just to look at Ashton Kucher for two wasted hours, and catapult this piece of crap into the number one box-office movie slot for a week, all the while justifying themselves with the claims that it is "mindless fun" and "just entertainment, man," and accusing criticisms like mine as taking things too seriously. I weep for the future.

*mouth agape*

butterfly effect was good

I saw this last night and really enjoyed it alot. I liked the plot alot and thought the acting wasnt as bad as it is made out to be. The plot kept me interested for the whole 2 hours and I walked out with a shit eating grin. Better than some of the shit Ive seen lately likely Gothika or Paycheck.

I must admit that I was extremely blissed out out on a coke blunt, some vicodin and a bottle of MD2020 so my opinion is a little biased.
Dont believe the critics, give this flick a chance.

I just saw this movie last night after waiting months to see it. I have to say I thought it was going to be a little better but maybe thats cause I've hyped it up so much.

I think Ashton did a pretty decent job and overall I enjoyed myself. I liked the fact that the movie was pretty different from what's been playing in the theater's recently but there were a few parts that were a bit cheesy.
There were some scenes that seemed to be trying too hard to make a point but I guess they wanted most people to be able to follow along.

Overall this movie was interesting and I would recommend it if you like movies that are a little farfetched but fun at the same time.

:D

I would just like to say I shared the view of most people in this thread, doubting Ashton's ability to do a serious acting role, but interested in the premise of the movie after seeing the preview.

Let me say, that I have seen the movie twice this weekend. It's fucking awesome. Anyone who's seen it knows... that kid Tommy is a fuckin' badass, I could never forget him kicking that kid's ass in the movie theatre.

Wow.

Wow. This movie blew my fucking mind. I intilally didn't want to see it because I didn't think Kelso could act, but I am so glad I did. This movie was fucking crazy, and in a very good way. Afterwards I couldn't even think; my mind was that blown.

Very good movie. Sorry I doubted it.
Go see it.........

past thread on Butterfly Effect
the above thread went a little off track so this one will probably not be merged.

I saw this movie immediately after it came out and loved it as well. I was looking forward to it for a couple months after seeing the trailer. It actually beat my expectatoins. It really messed with my head (in a great way) and kept me going for the whole 2 hours.
Most of the critics blasted this but the aduiences seem to be enjoying it.
Screw the critics- the movie is well worth the cash. Arrive high and you will not be dissapointed. I reccomend a nice OPIATE/marijuana buzz.

Ashton Kutcher showed a little promise here and there, but needs a LOT of work. All in all, he wasn't really given much to work with, so there wasn't much for his to fuck up.

This seems to be the overall theme for the entire film. Showing promise here and there, but failing to deliver each and every time.

It's an interesting story, but there are holes in the plot big enough to drive a Mack Truck through... seriously. There are points in the film where they literally toss the story out the window just to help move the characters along. This kind of careless disregard for the script (as well as the intelligence of the audience) is insulting.

It's like the they sat down and said "okay, we have this story that the entire movie is based on, but we have written ourselves into a corner here, and the only way to move the story along is to COMPLETELY FORGET about that story, the one that we have based this ENTIRE MOVIE on, but only for a little while. Once we get back into a situation where we are comfortable, we can bring the story back."

All in all, it's a good k-hole flick, but don't expect anything too cerebral or thought provoking.

Oh yeah, the final scene of the movie is in the trailer. That is never a good thing. It's even worse when I can watch the trailer months before the movie comes out and say "I bet that's the last scene of the movie"...

Adios,
Steve

lingo at what point did they "throw out the plot?" isn't the whole point of the butterfly effect theory that when you change one thing in the past, you change everything? please elaborate

well, the 'butterfly effect' is just another name for the 'chaos theory', or a simplified way of explaining it.
OniKage, you are nearly right, but the butterfly effect isn't about changes in the past. The chaos theory is basically saying that the tiniest of events (down to even the tiniest molecule) in the universe has the potential to impact and change it all in huge huge ways. Or: If a butterfly flaps its wings in Japan, it can cause a tornado in Texas (or whereever you have tornados lol).
Sorry just had to clear that up! :P

haven't seen this film, but sounds extremely interesting....

i went to it last night very very high on pot.

i dont think i would of liked the movie if i wouldnt of been so high. the weed almost "put me in it". what was going on in the movie kind of took me higher. it was a pretty crazy ordeal. not quite as crazy as the preview for death dawn or something... but ya the three of us were all kinda freakin' out.

after we were all creeped out and burning out. we sat in the car for like 15 minutes unable to go anywhere because we had The Fear.

i liked it though, how could i not? ashton is so sexy.

Brief, vague review

I just saw this movie, and despite my absolute loathing for Ashtun Kutcher, I loved this film.

I found it very emotional, and it kept a good pace throughout - I cared about the characters, and each outcome seemed logical, or plausable.

Very entertaining, and worth watching. Thumbs way up :)
