I really liked this movie. I have had a heroin problem and it was like i was watching myself. I think that this movie does a better job of representing the life/downward spiral of a heroin addict. Moreso than trainspotting or permanent midnight or wasted, especially moreso than requiem. I did pretty much everything that he did in the movie in my own life except the gay cock sucking. The scenes that dont deal with heroin are pretty cool too. Overall it gets the junkie seal of approval.

Hell yeah, this is one of my favorites! One of the 1st DVDs I bought when I got a DVD player.
I'm not a huge DiCaprio fan, but this movie fuckin rocks!

i'm not sold on this film. i really should have enjoyed it -before i saw it i'd always figured that it sounded great- but i just couldn't get into it. i thought the performances were okay, but the plot just seemed kind of contrived. which, i think is not something aimed at this film much, and i can't really explain it, so i guess i should really just stfu

the fact that you mentioned the film "Wasted" in your post makes me wonder. but yeah other than that (and not ever having a junk habit myself) Basketball Diaries seems like the most legit/accurate portrayol. What is guys name IRL? he's a writer no? anyone know how much of a role he played in the film?

Yea.. That story was a true story about Jim Carroll when he was a teenager through the 60's. I just got done reading the book and I have seen the movie. The book is a lot better and I love when he writes of his experiences with LSD and other drugs besides H, but the movie was awesome. Jim Carroll is a musician now I think, but I haven't heard any of his shit..

i haven't seen the movie in a few years, but i thought that the version in the movie was a cover, while the version on the soundtrack is actually him.

i could of course be wrong.

The song is not that good, jim carrol is more of a poet then a singer, and if you listen to the lyrics they are all right things that happened in jim's life. thats alot of death. The movie was ok, but not very accurate to the real events of jim's life.for example in his own writing there is no black savior named reggie, but at best entertaining.

I just finished watching this movie, and I'd def. rate it as one of my favourites.
I even shed a tear.
There's some nasty scenes in there. Fucking wow!

is a pretty good movie, i enjoyed it and also agree that it is more of an accurate portayal of the junkie road than mvoies, epecially requim. no, not every junkie ends up on one side of a double ended dildo... amazing ya? but yes, many do end up dirty, stealing street lifes and some in jail.
it was a fun and lighter (somewhat) movie on addiction than requim

I agree w/. whoever said b4 that this is way better and more realistic then requiem for a dream, trainspotting, ect....

And ive always though Leo was a great actor since i saw this movie

i saw this movie soon after i fell in love with Leo in Romeo and Juliet... i cant really remember much of it but at 14 (or however old i was at the time) i do know that i thought it was a pretty good.

Requiem is one of the most full on movies that i've ever seen.... really good though, even if it isn't so realistic for the majority of drug taking population.

De Caprio is a good actor, and this movie was no exception. It definately made me not want to do Heroin after seeing that nasty withdrawal scene. He just got a bad wrap because of the whole Titanic movie (for what reason I don't know, it was definately a hit). Gangs of New York and Catch Me If You Can are two other movies that were very good.

^^^ probably *because* it was a hit. and predictable. and cheesy. i still liked it. gangs of new york was utter shite though.

i think leo was perhaps a tad too melodramatic in this performance, however - though still better than most actors in hollywood, these days.
