I seriously think this is the best (subjective - my opinion) movie I've seen this year.

I can not emphasize how much I enjoyed this. The dialogue was great and the over the top violence was awesome...

Also the use of colour and black and white, while it is not an original idea, was really well done. I thought it was great how many of the backgrounds appeared more drawn than actual footage...

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who was extremely let down by Madsen's performance. He's done some great work but just plain sucked in this film.

Robert Rodriguez said in an interview that he shot all of the stories from graphic novel to screen in their entirety, knowing that they would be cut for time, but could be added to the dvd. Why can't more directors do this instead of tacking on shitty "deleted" scenes that were cut because they were shitty?

I enjoyed how faithful Robert Rodriguez was to the source material. The movie was flat out amazing. The movie successfully delivered the gritty "neo-Noir" feel on film that graphic comics delivered on paper. I'm definitely picking this one up on DVD.

Also, given the amount of source material, a sequel is already in the works, for those of you who couldn't get enough of the dark and grim world of Sin City.

IMDB: Sin City 2

this movie intrigued me from the moment that i saw the trailer for it on tv. actually, the first time that i saw the ad i didn't know what to think. so many movie stars, the whole set and everything looked so surreal, and then with a title like Sin City it made me think that it was a new video game or something of the like. it was only when the "in cinemas..." part came up that i definitely knew that it is in fact a movie, but still i couldn't get past the impression that it looked so different, and it's for that reason i have to say i'm very interested in checking it out. briefly reading over this thread too it appears that most people loved it; which is great. i'm looking forward to seeing it.

The movie was amazing, i am glad i payed to see it, 9 bucks was WORTH IT.

so fuckin artistic, beautiful, it was just done right in every way.

A mildly interesting film, but it more than makes up for this by just how well it is shot. I can't see myself ever watching it again as the dialogue just wasn't interesting.

3 stars out of 5.

^ you most likely didn't like the dialogue because it stayed very true the comic book's dialogue. sometimes people just don't like that style (use of brevity more) transfered to film. I love both aspects of how this film was shot and how the film's dialogue panned out; at times the movie just reads word-for-word and scene-for-scene from the comics!

"I tied those knots, that's my specialty!" is just so clever...lol

I finally saw this on DVD and I may be biased..... I wont lie because I have to say that I absolutely freakin LOVE Mickey Rourke (always have...waayyy before he fucked his face up with plastic surgery!) and he's an AWESOME actor in everyway, bar none. I found this to be a slick & entertaining movie, lots of eye candy, but some of the scenes with the prostitutes (with the exception of Devon Aoki) were CHEESY as FUCK especially the ones with Rosario Dawson in it...I cant stand her and want to slap her whenever she overplays her annoying sneering bitch role. :p 3 stars.

I thought this movie was incredibly demeaning towards women.

When people use the phrase style over substance this movie is what they should have in mind.

I heard they makin sin city 2 this summer....yeaa boyeee.

i cant believe how many haters are in here. that shit wasnt demeaning to women, jesus fuckin christ.

comic books are a different world than the movies today....its a totally different artform with totally different ideals...the movie was based off a comic book which are well known to have big titty bitches ni all types of naked poses and hot bitches everywhere. so what? is it a crime to show a attractive woman dressed up in a costume in a imaginary world?

Shit i aint gonna go on with it but someone definately got it twisted.

i still think the artistic side of the movie was great and the story as well.

I think the film was visually stunning and had good acting...but, it had no emotional draw, at all, for me. It was an empty film in terms of emotion, storytelling, etc. I watched it and was like hmm, ok. I got nothing out of it.

Thus, I give it a 2. A film MUST give me something or have meaning for me to find it worthwhile. Sin City did neither.
