Film: Frank Miller's Sin City

i just saw a preview for this movie on E! and it doesn't come out until april. it looks weird and amazing. loaded with young female stars like Alexis Bledel. it kinda looks like an old school comic book brought to life. does anyone know what it's all about?

How strange... I was going to make a post about this.

Yeah, Sin City is a comic book series... there are a few volumes out and I think the movie is based on volumes 1, 3 and 4 (I myself have read 1 and 2).

All I know of the plot is what I've read. Volume 1 (which is titled "Sin City", and focuses on the story of Marv and the death of Goldie) is fantastic... I suggest you buy the volumes and read them to know what it's about, because my synopsis will be all too brief. Marv is a hardcore, ugly, violent loner who spends one night with Goldie and wakes to find her dead. He is framed for her murder and goes about uncovering the truth and dealing out considerable amounts of punishment. The other stories from books 3 and 4, I do not know. I've heard that Dwight looks after the hookers (who are all quite armed and dangerous anyway), and that Hartigan is apparently the one decent cop in Sin City, but that's it.

It's all very noir, which you probably noticed from the trailer (I love the brief glimpses of colour). The characters only ever come out at night and sleep during the day. There's a lot of violence and quite a bit of sex - prostitution is big (and all the hookers are hot), lots of boozing, settling scores, and everyone in power is crooked. What I like about the violence and the sex is that it isn't mindless like so many action films, at least in my eyes.

I am UBER excited about this movie - I know it won't be sacrificed because Frank Miller wrote the screenplay and is co-directing it. When I saw the trailer, I recognised lines and scenes that came directly from the comic.

Trailer can be found here.

Cast list can be foundhere. (I damn near wet myself when I saw that Elijah Wood was playing Kevin)

EDIT: May I request that anyone who is well read on Sin City to not post any spoilers? Or, at the very least, give us/me plenty of prior warning?

Frank Miller's great, and the trailer for that movie looks really fucking neat.

something just occurred to me, did frank miller do Batman? i think i have a special leather bound book of Batman with his name on it.

^yeah, thats it. even though i know nothing about the comic Sin City, i still can't wait for this movie. basing it on being just a movie, i think it looks quite enticing. i hate it when they show a great preview and the movie doesn't come out for like 6 months. :\

i just watched the trailer for about the tenth time. the cinematography looks so amazing.

This looks like a sick ass movie......With a killer cast! It opens April 1st

Sin City is a violent city where the police department is as corrupt as the streets are deadly. In this movie, we follow three stories, the central of which is Marv, a tough-as-nails and nearly impossible to kill street fighter who goes on a rampage of vengeance when a beautiful woman, Goldie (King), he sleeps with for only one night is killed while lying in bed with him.

Cast: Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis, Benicio Del Toro, Clive Owen, Elijah Wood, Jessica Alba, Brittany Murphy, Josh Hartnett, Nick Stahl, Rosario Dawson, Carla Gugino, Jaime King, Marley Shelton, Alexis Bledel, Maria Bello, Michael Clarke Duncan, Rick Gomez, Frank Miller, Michael Madsen

A thread about this was made a couple of months ago and can be found here.

Since I posted in that thread, I have read Book 3 ("The Big Fat Kill", centred on Dwight and the hookers) and Book 4 ("That Yellow Bastard", centred on Hartigan and Nancy) and I have only this to say: HOLY FUCK (that's a good thing, not a bad thing).

I am ridiculously excited about this movie...

^ i'll cut you bitch... take it back! :X

i'm noticing the more i see the trailer that i find alexis bledel extremely attractive... i'd never really found her attractive before, i don't genderally like women with the physcality of a sheet of plywood- but the way rodriguez has accentuated her eyes makes my pants tight... ? ... and she's not jailbait, she was born in 1981- so i don't have to feel bad about that, i did kindof feel bad when i thought she might be jailbait.

i'll let you go first if you buy me popcorn :)

i just stole the comic book from my boyfriend, its pretty kick ass!

Is this one of those movies that used to be a comic book? So far those have been shit.
Look at the co-director, Robert Rodriguez. All of his movie's that i've seen have been complete shit.

I must admit though, this movie looks very fucking cool. I saw the trailer for it last night at the theater, looked like the best movie comming up. I really hope this turns out good, because if it does it looks like it'll be really fucking awesome.

I'm really looking forward to this film however I'm wary of films with ensemble casts and their tendency to not amount to much. I have seen the trailer and it does look promising (then again, most trailers do) and I have sufficient faith in Rodriguez's ability to expect this film to be quite decent. I'll see it when it comes out here in Melbourne, Australia.
