I thought this film was pretty good. Much better than i expected actually. I only decided to see it once i saw that Roger Avery wrote it.
I'm glad i did.
Nothing all that scary, more eery, spooky and disturbing (as mentioned before). I think the difference between this and the game is that you aren't controlling the character in the movie, thus the connection one feel in the video game (which i've played but not very much or far into the stories) is not entirely there. Everything else that i remember of the video game is present, so the translation to film succeeded better than most vid game films.
It had it's silly moments, odd character motivations and an overly drawn out wallop of concentrated exposition towards the end that all detract from the whole, but the pluses of this, one of the more unique recent films, certainley ouitweigh the negatives.
I really like the end.

Gotta say, this is one of them movies that could never exist if it wasnt for white people
see dave chappeles show, "DONT GO IN THERE!" and "black people hear a scary noise and get the fuck outta there, white people always gotta go investigate." for reference.....
the movie was somethin like this. hmm, my child has horrible nightmares about the place she was born. everything i hear about it is a mystery and everyone tells me not to go. when i get there i see a abandoned village with evil black shadow people and a alarm that makes the whole sky go black when it goes off, and evil underground skeleton demon-beings come out and kill or underworld-ify anyone who comes near them while the darkness is spreading, I THINK ILL GO UNDERGROUND WHILE THE ALARM IS SOUNDING AND INVESTIGATE!!!"
if there was a smart person as a main character there would be no movie. i
thought it was funny but it was like damn bitch ....you really ARE dumb....it made it less believeable cuz no one in their right mind would do that shit for real....

My brother finally lent me his DVD and I watched this the other night. Siiiick. I loved it.

i really lgot off on this movies dark atmosphere and aesthetic look.
the transitions through different levels of reality in the town were great!, from the ghost town, to the fog and then underground demonic hell.
the sound track is cool andindustrial, the foghorn alarm really leaves you with a feeling of dread.
the nitemarish creatures are awesome too, loved the nurses and the pyrimid head.
i think that the overly complex plot could have been tidied up abit but since they did such a tidy job with the rest of the movie its not a big deal.
makes me want to play the games real bad!

ok...the game-movie be damned. video games rarely turn into good movies and remain accurate to the original video game plot.
