And "shooter" = "shoot her"!?!? As soon as she walked in the house and shooter was all over the walls, I said aloud to my friends "oh my gawd they'd better not turn it into "shoot her" like a shitty knock off the shining's redrum = murder and again, they did exactly that in the most horribly cheesey way possible.

Yeah, that "shooter" on the walls part did totally make me think of "The Shining" the way he (Depp) was suddenly acting like a complete different person and all that shit... Insane writers...

I love Johnny Depp as an actor - im not gay, and do not fancy depp, but i do think he is a great actor (Benny & Joon, Blow, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas to name a few)

lol
just because you say you like a male actor we don't all assume you are gay!

Overall, I liked the book more than the movie, but I did prefer the film's ending. I thought that they should've explained the part about Mort's past plagairism a little more in the film though. They mention it but never really give the story behind it.

Sums up my views about 100 percent. Enjoyable.

What is the big fucking deal with the main characters being insane. Is this the only hook that script writers can come up with these days?

My mistake - there is the one "they were really dead".

But fuck me... it was fresh in Fight Club, it was done well in Identity, but god damn - its been done over and over again.
Oh Shooter is a homicidal personality. Wow. Thanks Mr. King take another 5 million dollar cheque.

Umm... The book was first published in 1988. So rather than blaming King who had little to do with the project, you could blame the director/producer for leaving it so long to decide to make a film from the story.

If that's a little too hard for you to understand -

Stephen King - Four Past Midnight (book) - 1988 \

Chuck Palahniuk - Fight Club (book) - 1996

Identity (movie) - 2002

So who had the original idea?

^ "So who had the original idea?"

Well, definitely not Stephen King. Robert Louis Stevenson (Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde) comes to mind although I'm sure lots of people used the multiple personality device before and obviously after that. I think the point is that the whole idea - like this movie - is trite. However, while some movies like Fight Club make a good movie out of an old idea this one definitely did not.

So you read the story then ?

What's all this hate on King shite all of a sudden ?

^ I don't hate Steven King. I'm just saying its not an original idea. And I read the story a long time ago in Forensics class in high school but I dont remember too much of it.

skywise~ good call about that line from adaptation. i was thinking the same thing. btw i think the other "overused plot device" was serial killers:)

this film was a snoozer from jump. things that were supposed to be eerie were bland at best and often times humorous. i couldnt stop laughing during the scenes with depp wearing that awful hat. if that was supposed to be anything other than funny it seriously failed.

the only reason i continued watching this piece of shit after the first 1/2 hour was to see if it would rebound in the end. there had to be something more than the obvious "twist". alas, there was nothing. lol another ear of corn. *cues spooky music*

two thumbs way down

Two thumbs down.

My gripes:

Remember when Johnny Depp got his watch stuck in the that shitty old SUV-type vehicle before it was pushed over the ledge with the old dude and the detective? What was the point of that? I thought that'd come back and bite him with the police or something, because you knew he wasn't dying there. Pointless.

As someone else mentioned, they kept hinting at his past plagiarism, but never went into it. Weird and annoying.

I thought the twist sucked ass, I also picked this out about half an hour into the movie, and I too thought "no way, it'd be just like fight club". He then proceeds to figure things out after it's too late and he's in too deep, just like fight club.

What did Depp's ex-wife's boyfriend mean when he said to Depp at the gas station "I've been responsible for this stuff that's been happening", and why did he act like he knew what depp was talking about when depp confronted him? I mean, I understand why they did it (to try and throw you off from the predictable twist), but aren't they supposed to follow the facts?

They could have got away with this scene if it was a hallucination of Depp's, but it couldn't be because they actually make a point to show the boyfriend's hand all swollen up in a later scene.... This made no sense to me.

Why would the boyfriend say shit like that? It was inconsistent with the facts of the movie and didn't fit in. It just blatantly could not have happened that way(unless I missed something).

I also thought the ending was stupid and unrealistic. Any decent detective would have read all of his books and known what was up with the corn that was all over his house.

I have some other gripes, but those are the only ones I can think of right now as I saw this movie awhile ago. Depp did a great acting job as usual, but even he couldn't save this piece of shit movie.

King wrote this story far before fight club ever came out.

This movie was rubbish from start to finish. One star.

Seriously, I wasted part of my life watching this flick. Absolutely nothing new or interesting about it at all. Annoying film.

I gave it a three...I liked it pretty well. Johnny Depp is a very talented actor, and although this wasn't his best performance, it was certainly good.
