Are you joking? This movie isn't very disturbing, hell I was waiting and waiting for the disturbing stuff and I sat through a very boring movie and then near the end is some fake looking gore and nudity. I don't even remember the plot very well, what I can remember is some teenagers are kept captive in a castle? and made to perform some silly rituals like mock weddings and crap. This goes on and on, then near the end they are taken into an arena and made to fight nude and are killed. If you find nude teens being stabbed and decapitated by a dude with an erection shocking I guess you'll like it.
Oh there was also shit eating at one point I think.

They raped 18 kids with ever kind of sexual perversion through out the entire movies, you don't find that disturbing? Which movie would you say is disturbing?

Probably the only time I've actually been uncomfortable watching something is the scene in the movie Cannibal Holocaust where they pretty much dissect a living sea turtle alive. Knowing that it was real it was uncomfortable watching intentional animal cruelty.

Don't get me wrong I understand salo 120's significance and value to students of film but as a piece of entertainment which is what a movie ultimately is it just falls flat. The teens don't react emotionally at all to anything happening, and the plot is just too bare bones. Would anyone even remember this film if it didn't go to the extremes it did? If the torture and shit eating scenes were toned down, I don't think so.

i own a copy of the criterion collection version the rare one.I watched it once and didnt find it that great.

This movie should become a lot less rare towards the end of the year. According to the official Criterion blog they have regained rights to the movie and plan to release a high definition transfer this year.

Someone lent me the original criterion once but I didn't get a chance to watch it. Maybe when they re-release it I'll check it out but to be honest I really don't know how much desire I have to see this one.

I just finished watching this movie.

I was not impressed.

I understand the social political message Pasolini was trying to convey, but I don't agree with his execution.

I put this movie in the same league as Greg Araki or Todd Solondz films. They are "shocking" and "disturbing", but there is little depth to the depravity aside from the very strict interpretations that the directors had in mind. It may have been ground breaking and thought provoking back in 1975, but it was a poor kind of thought provoking, IMHO. I'd rather watch a movie like Easy Rider or Dog Day Afternoon... or even Rocky Horror, which dealt with "issues" in a much more entertaining and thought provoking fashion.

:\ I didn't like it that much. The plot was silly, and I thought the actors sucked. I didn't find it shocking either; I guess because the acting was so weak that I just couldn't take any of it seriously, or imagine how I would feel in that situation.
