I just saw this the other day and was pretty impressed. Quarantine is a remake of a Spanish horror movie called Rec. Knowing that, my expectations were pretty damn low.

It starts out slow, which is good because it gives you time to actually get to know he characters. The main one, a woman reporter doing a story on the fire department. She's hanging with them for the night in hopes of some adventure.

The movie picks up when they respond to a call of an elderly woman in distress. After she violently bites a chunk out of one of the responding firemen, all hell breaks loose. Soon, the entire building is sealed off and the remaining tenants, cops firemen and reporter are left for dead.

It was an effectively creepy movie that kind of fizzled out towards the end. I won't give any spoilers, but you will definitely leave the theater wondering, "What the fuck was that ending about?" I give it three stars and will definitely try to find Rec. I'm sure it's a much better film.

wtf? I'm surprised no one else has commented on this movie.

I found it ok, but I'm really sick of the hand-held camera trend. It worked for Blair Witch, but for a straight up horror film, it seems like a cop out. Much the same way that pitch dark movies with only flashes of gore seem as well. IMO, horror is scarier when you can see it in full light, and for more than a brief flash. That's why I like the Dawn of the Dead remake so much.

On a positive note,
NSFW:
I enjoyed how terrified the film chick was by the end, because that's exactly how I would be in a similar situation. But the camera guy bugged me. Except for the beatdown he gave to the one infected person, dood needed to ditch the equipment and help the fuck out.

Question, vibby.

NSFW:
What sense,if any did you make out of the stuff upstairs at the end and the guy wearing what looked like a diaper? I thought maybe that's where this virus originated, but the ad campaigns mention 5 or 6 different occurances of the same thing happening in other apartment complexes. I was on board with the movie until the end.

I agree with you on the hand-held gimmick, but that was how the original was made too. So, it would have been an insult to change it. It's insult enough that Hollywood keeps stealing movies from other countries anyway.

:D i'm like the worst person in the entire universe to ask for a movie explanation or to try and make sense of something, dood! lol. reason being, i'm extremely ADD when I watch shit. like, even with stuff i've seen multiple times. I start zoning out and daydreaming within the first few minutes, and i only zone back in for brief periods of time here and there. it's so bad I can't even usually follow cartoons.

ok, but that said, i'll still give my thoughts.

NSFW:
during the movie, i kept thinking it was the african doods father up there, and that that was why there was a walker (cuz they said he was in a wheel chair, right?) but ego_loss pointed out that they mentioned the attic guy, and that he hadn't been seen for a few weeks. which i do vaguely remember. so my theory is that he does have something to do with creating the virus. and I also think they are implying that he is linked to the articles he collected. just because other outbreaks weren't as severe, they could have been early experiments created by him. i doubt he would intentionally try to infect his own building while living there; that would be suicide. I think a rat escaped, infecting the dog and thus alerting the CDC. but the collected articles were probably earlier works of his, or maybe from other people he networked with (for movie sequal options!)

Does this movie have anything to do with the brilliant spanish novel of the same name by Juan Goytisolo? I really doubt it, a film based on that would have to be a work of art, and this looks like a garden-variety horror movie.

EDIT: No, definitely not. Pitty...

I did'nt really enjoy this movie, I'm going to sound like a simpleton but between the shacky ass camera and the reporter who COULDENT chill out and stop hyperventelating for 45 MINUTES I felt like I had sensory overload and was a little sick by the end.

3 stars, I saw this the other day with my dad, It scared the shit out of my father, whos 54 and has a mental disability. I felt bad for him, he couldn't sleep all last night.. shoulda gone and seen W.. Serously the begining of the movie was lame, I diddn't know this was going to be like a blare witch project thing, when they got in the apartment it was getting alittle cooler, and when they got to the old lady. that was awesome, The old lady in a blody ass night robe, now thats some scary shit. Wow, The bites and shit were stupid, I really doubt it a old lady could serously bite and rip out shit that extreme, and I really doubt it that they would just quarntine the entire place. Hey you never know.. The rest of the movie was pretty much the same thing, some one got bit, and they got the rabies shit, and so on. The weird part is when the fire fighter with the mustache got out of the bed thing and started to walk on his broken ass leg, serously I highly doubt it he could just walk normaly like a zombie. And when they go into the attic Its weird, there were still rats alive in the cages, no one has been up there in months, and the dude with the shity underwear couldn'tve fed em, shit he woulda eatn em! I found it funny, the guy in the attic was fucked up! serously thats some scary shit to, the shit stained underpants was gross. The ending sucked, like the blair witch, like it just ended. wish that the army would've gone in with flame throwers or a mob with torchs and pick axe's or something, that would've been alot cooler. so 3 stars i give.
