i wonder if i'm the only person in the world who actually likes this film.
actually, i checked imdb and there's one positive review - funnily enough i doubt that person even saw the same film. they comment on the amazing depths of characterisation and how lizzy is cute and naive. right...
so anyway, i liked this a lot. the cinematography - the dude whose last name i can't spell...erik sjolskgaerd or something, that directed insomnia, directed this - is fantastic in parts. the music ain't bad. the performances are really good. ricci carries herself with her usual drama, but she's real, still.
heche is a good cameo, and i really liked jessica lange's performance as the mother - reminded me a lot of ellen burstyn in requiem for a dream.
the themes were very intriguing and dealt with really well, i thought. i could imagine - though hopefully will never reach - similar things happening. it was portrayed very frighteningly but very real.
i wonder if those who hated this movie are those who've read the book - i haven't, yet. what do those who haven't read it think?
