I think the cooking, both with the team and with the french, simply emphasise the nurturing importance of family and home.

I loved this movie. Some powerful scenes in it.

Will be buying this on dvd soon as i can :)

^pretty much, but the botched climactic takeover so analysed in the doco is not focused on. 99% of the film is what happened afterwards.

This film sucked.

From a technical perspective, of course, it was on point. It's Spielberg, what do you expect? He's a master of scene composition, camera work and achieving an aesthetically pleasing cinematic experience that engages you aurally and visually. He certainly knows how to manipulate the medium to achieve maximum suspense as well.

But, probably because of his track record, I hold Spielberg to higher standards and every other aspect of this film stunk. I love Tony Kushner, but he should maybe stick to writing plays. I was very disappointed with the shit he turned out in this screenplay.

Setting aside for a moment the liberal interpretation of actual history, the movie was full of endless moralizing and political commentaries that were superficial, unenlightening and I feel dumber for having had to listen to them as they were awkwardly jammed into the narrative like a penis into a turkey baster. If you want to explore the morality of state-sponsored assassinations or political dynamics in the Middle East or the underlying social roots of Islamic fundamentalism, good God I hope you're not hoping to glean anything worthwhile from this film.

How can you take a film's political message/social commentary seriously when it is full of contrived, ridiculously stupid plot holes that shatter its credibility? I've never been a field agent for an intelligence agency, but the film's depiction of the Mossad agents was totally unbelievable. You think intelligence agencies take a group of 5 roughneck/rookies and plop them in Europe with limited instructions, virtually no accountability and hardly any support network at all? What a ridiculous notion.

Not only that, but the appearance of this mysterious information bartering French "family" was so stupid it gave me diarrhea. I assume most of the actual info on Israel's revenge campaign is classified, but I seriously doubt the existence of some weird hippie/James Bond commune in France that has information on every operative of every agency in every major city in Europe, the Middle East, America, Canada, and every other fucking place. Mossad would have supplied intel to its hit teams. The Frenchies were just an awful and unnecessary device.

This leads to the stupidest part of this film, which L2R thinks is "awesome" yet some genius made him a moderator anyway. Shame on you, Bluelight.

I'm confused about one point though: When the safehouse they organise is double booked with PLO agents (awesome twist), how can they continue to trust their contact?

They can't trust their contact, and in real life there is virtually zero possibility of this actually happening. Not even my grandmother is this stupid, and she doesn't even know how to answer a phone or order Mexican food. It was a mind-numbingly contrived way for the film to showcase the ideological disparity between the Israelis and Arabs; and yet, it also showed that they aren't so different after all. And yet, they still must kill one another. How moving. Not to mention cliched, overdone and terrible. Just terrible.

The film sucks. But it is well shot.

Aww, I was just playin.

Snuggles at Botany Bay later?

Also, I didn't mean you were stupid. I meant the plot device they used was stupid. Just to clarify.
