I watched this last night, and thought it was average at best. I probably won't watch it again, maybe wait'll it comes out on HBO if you haven't already seen it. I like Bernie Mac, but I don't think this movie role did him any justice.

The following contains spoilers written in white text. Highlight to read:

Start here-----
The baseball commission discovers that Bernie does not infact have 3000 hits, but 2997 due to a scoring error. So a semi-retired Bernie makes a comback and becomes the laughing stock of his teammates. A shitty romance develops with an ESPN writer, which was totally unnecessary to the movie.

On his last up of the season, Bernie has a chance to hit his 3000th hit, but instead lays down a sacrifice bunt so the guy on 2nd base can have a chance at scoring. He is successful, and his team makes 3rd place in their division.

End here----

I have to admit it wasn't the best movie in the world, but as a standard "selfish bastard that gets rejected because he's a jerk and then becomes a team player/redemption movie" I thought it was cute. (Only a 2 star film though.)

I do agree about the ESPN thing being unnecessary. But it was a way for the director to show both Mr. 3000's old self and how he had really changed. (ie: common ploy/cliche) Really they had already done a good job of explaining this in other ways, so I could have done without it.
