Monty Python and the Holy Grail

I just saw this film for the first time tonight. I had no idea it was so goddamned funny (nor that "Robin Hood: Men In Tights" seems to have been heavily influenced by it), and I'm not big on British humor at all. It was hiliariously absurd, and yet it was so artfully made that it never overstayed its welcome.

Any other long-time fans of this flick?

"Come over here--I'll bite your legs off!"

I grew up on this movie, was always my favorite flick as a kid. The Black Knight scene, The French, holy hand grenade, and the quest for the shrubbery were my favorite scenes. Hands down this movie is Monty Python's best film.

"It's just a flesh wound!"

"Are you telling me a coconut can migrate?"

---------------------------------------

"She turned me into a newt!"

[Silence.]

"I got better!"

^"Are you suggesting that coconuts migrate?"

I've seen this movie more times than I could count... I really wouldn't want to try... and it's still funny after all these years.

"Come see the violence inherited in the system! HELP, HELP, I'm being repressed!"

i too, have seen it many times. anymore though, i have trouble watching the movie straight through. for one, i've seen it a shitload, but i've heard just about every joke repeated 50 times for every time i saw the movie. kind of killed it for me.

^ i have to agree. i watched '...the holy grail' recently after having watched it previously quite some time ago. of all the python movies i think it's aged the worst. it is funny - very funny - but i don't think it compares favourably to 'the life of brian' or 'the meaning of life'

still great though, the first few hundred times ;)
is still a good movie to pull out when you know you need an easy laugh... or when youre all sitting around, drunk or whatever and need a movie that every single person in the room will be able recite the dialog along with the movie

a shrubbery!

I liked it, although I did like the other two films better. "The Meaning Of Life", and "Life of Brian" are brilliant.

Let us praise God.
O Lord,...
...ooh, You are so big,...
...so absolutely huge.
Gosh, we're all really impressed down here, I can tell You.
Forgive us, O Lord, for this, our dreadful toadying...
And barefaced flattery.
But You are so strong and, well, just so super.
Fantastic.
Amen.

With our shortcomings in the Iraq war and the cinematic epic Troy about to be released, I believe the building of a large wooden badger to be especially relevant these many years later. Just imagine the possibilities.

"Rummie, Condi, and I will leap out of the badger not only taking the Shiites by surprise but totally unarmed!"

Definitely the funniest of Monty Python films IMO (Life of Brian close second)

"This is supposed to be a happy occasion, let's not bicker and argue about who killed who"

Now Go Away Or I Shall Taunt You A Second Time

"Run away!
Run away!
Run away!"

Sorry to all the holy grail fans, but The Meaning of Life and The Life of Brian in particular were much better. I mean how many times can one laugh at catapaulted cows or saying k-nigit? It does have parts that are very clever though :).
