Monster

I saw this movie last night. I'm not quite sure how I feel about the movie as a whole, but Charlize Theron's preformance was absolutely amazing! She's never really had a leading role (that I know of offhand) before, so this came as a bit of a shock to me. What a wonderful surprise!!

Has anyone seen this movie yet? What did you think of it?

Charlize Theron's preformance was absolutely amazing

The movie was not bad but I agree, her performance was quite excellent.

Amazing what makeup artists can do these day eh?

I love this movie!

I have to say that this was a really great movie and I thought that Charlize did an amazing job!

I've read a few reviews that put this movie down because they feel that it portrayed her as a victim even though she killed a good number of people. I noticed this too but I wouldn't necessarily say that this is a bad thing. Her whole life she was severly abused and she never had a person love her and care for her. To me these people are victims - that doesn't mean that it's okay for them to go around murdering people but it is understandable and it'a obvious that a person can be driven to do terrible things.

This was an awesome movie and really makes you feel for the characters. You actually start to forget that it's actually Charlize Theron because the make-up and the acting is so good. She actually gained 30 lbs. to play this role and I dont think anyone else could've done better. I definitely recommend this movie and I cant wait to buy it on DVD.

just watched this a few days ago, pretty good and intense flick... i have sooo much respect for charlise theron as well... don't think i'll buy it though, doesn't have much replay value for me...

i think the film shows that she's just as "out of control" as she is a victim fairly well though, it wasn't hard to notice when she stepped outside of reality and started building her own world.

ready for this to come out on video. i've always thought charlize was an excellent actress; and from what i understand, she has outdone herself this time.

film: monster

i saw this film yesterday after checking the reviews on imdb.com first; the reviews are mostly very, very positive; but i thought the film was terrible;

i didn't like the acting; the soundtrack was horrible; character development and story-building were bad (for instance the sudden and unexpected betrayel at the end didn't fit into the rest of the film i.e. the main characters supposedly great love at all; or did i miss something? why did they not show any of the younger girls inner conflict of betraying/not betraying her love).... and this film got an oscar? i really can't believe it;

anyone else thought it sucked?

I thought it was terrible, too. The story development was horrible, the actual entertainment value of the movie sucked, I found the movie excruciatingly boring on top of Charliza Theron's forced and worthless acting. I am ashamed she got an oscar for this, it would have fit much better in the hands of Naomi Watts for 21 grams, that was some REAL acting. Christina Ricci did a wonderful job compared to Charlize, but the movie still sucked big time. I thought the young Elaine Wournous gave a good performance, better than Charlize's, though her part of the movie was quite miniscule.

oh weellll.....here is a fake acceptance speech written by Margaret Cho for Charlize Theron (even before she won best actress,ms.cho already predicted this.) She thought Monster was a phenomenal film..and i do too. :)

ere is what I wished Charlize Theron would have said:

I would like first to thank Aileen Wuornos for allowing me to tell her story, to step inside her body, to eventually learn how to become her, how to not be afraid anymore, as she ceased to be afraid, how to take back her self, her life, or at least attempt to. Perhaps what she did was terrible, but not so much more than what had been done to her, and ultimately her execution evened the score.

Thank you to the Academy for acknowledging this woman's story told without being softened through the male gaze. On the screen, we have few stories told from a woman's perspective. We are usually wives, mothers, girlfriends, an appendage, an afterthought, a solace, a distant and unattainable beauty, a graceful but silent presence to a male protagonist. We begin to think there is no other way to be a woman in our society.

It is motherhood, maidenhood and monsterhood. Thank you for letting me choose the latter. Thank you for the opportunity to show the beauty beneath the beast, that underneath the Medusa, lies the Madonna as well. For allowing her to stand alone, as so few women in cinema have done. For rewarding a story and a social commentary that did not uplift the spirit, but rather shed light upon a truth, that illuminates that fear, isolation and violation that most women have experienced at one time or another. For this - all thanks.

But especially, thank you for those prosthetic teeth.

LMAOF!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, this movie was something else!!

I liked it, how can anyone watch this movie and not give Charlize Theron major props? She played a tough role, and did it with perfection. As ugly as they made her out to be, when her and Christina Ricci got it on, I was diggin' it.

It was a great movie, but I really wasn't ready for it.

I was all hung over, and not feeling great to start with, and this movie just got to me. About half way through I started playing with the computer to divert my attention some. Again great movie, wrong day.

im watching it now in the hotel room. im sooo glad i didnt have to pay to see it. this is almost as lame as boogie nights.

The perfomance by Charlize is nothing more than amazing!!! Just incredible.

Having been born and raised in the Orlando, I am familer with this story. It was also filmed in the Central Florida area. When I watched it late the other night I really felt crepted out watching this murderer do those horrible things in locations that I know from being there.

Just on a side note. I just wathed the DVD the other night and while going through the extras I found that BT did the musical score for this movie. Apparently he is making a nice career for himself outside of the DJ scene. There is a good featurette of him and the director on the making of this film.

Here's a link that tells what really happened.

I walked in on the end of this movie last weekend and I must say that I was rather shocked at its intensity. I thought that the acting was very good and I look forward to renting it and watching it. I shall return later with a renewed opinion.

this movie was good, but she scared me throughout the movie, i wasn't used to seeing gorgeous Charlize Theron looking so fucking ugly, wonderful performance though, it was worth the hype..

I saw this movie at first and didn't think it was anything special.

I have seen a few documentaries on the real "Lee" story this film could have been better.

The more I think aout Charlize Theron's role in this film the more I realize it wasn't that great of acting. I think everyone just got amazed by the make-up and teeth.

^^ Even without the makeup and teeth, she did a phenominal job. The way she carried herself throughout the movie was absolutely perfect for the part. Her acting was nothing short of phenominal. I agree with LOVELIFE on this one, best female acting in AGES, if not ever in my opinion. Theron acted the part perfectly, from her manuerisms to her facial expressions, she hit the nail on the head...

If anyone is familiar with her previous roles, they should know that she is normally very graceful and beautiful. Not only does she have the ability to act so rugged and cheap, she has the ability to perform it dead on.

Great Movie IMO.

Christina Ricci reminded me a lot of her role in Fear and Loathing, cute, quiet, naive, kinda dumb.. personally I like her bitchy roles the best.
