Alias creator JJ Abrams adapts his tv spy stuff to the big screen for the 3rd installment of this potentially infinite franchise. MI works like an american james bond series, with just as much excitment and style but instead of english dignity, there's american pride.

MI3 is a very exciting installment that polishes and improves on the series since the second, by john woo (which i've only seen once). JJ Abrams successfully takes the best elements from his tv experience and explodes it all to another level on screen. There are dribs and drabs of the sentimental soap opera he likes to put on the small screen, but it's almost completely overshadowed by a disturbing intro, and well developed action sequences. Unlike the insulting work of bruckheimer and bay and their immitators, the action in this film is very satisfying.

While Mr Abrams' style doesn't come close to Brian De Palmer's, he still manages to captivate and thrill for a solid two hours of entertainment. My only regret is i didn't have enough time to get a bathtub of popcorn before the screening.

film: mission impossible III

adding the poll

this is supposed to be the best of the installments... so let go

I really enjoyed the first one, but didn't care for the second one at all. Curious about number 3.

For what it is, it is fantastic.

A big popcorn action movie that has spared no expense.

It pays a bit of a homage to certain scenes in earlier installments of the series and even a bit of a nod (i thought) to Top Gun in one scene.

I felt it took just the right amount of "spy backstabby stuff" from the first one and just the right amount of "explosion action" from the second to make a final film which is the best of the three.

It didn't feel like a total cookie cutter action movie like the second (John Woo... white doves are becoming a cliché, not a signature) and it kept me solidly entertained for the full 1.5~ hours.

Definitely worth a watch if you are looking for a great method of escapism for a while. Looks flashy, keeps you guessing and with some ace special effects.

4/5

Just caught this in the cinema.....it was pretty exciting and had wall t0 wall action & special effects....not a dull moment in sight. The action sequences made up for the kinda bland storyline, IMHO.
4 Stars.

PS. I still hate Tom Cruise.

i was expecting to hate it, but i really liked it. i'm a sucker for that theme of action hero showing his sensitive side for love... and i tried to put the lunatic image of tom cruise out of my mind for the movie, and it worked... he actually looked very hot for a kind of old dude!!!
i thought it had just the right amount of plot twists without getting overly confusing, since the action should be the star (and was).

I can see the Oscar speech now.

"I'd like that thank my wife, my new born baby girl, all my fans, and Xenu".

^lololololololol
I'd like to thank my wifes nursing bra

i kept laughing thru the first 15 minutes or so because all i could think of was tom cruise jumping like an idiot on oprah's couch. after i got my giggles out, it turned out to be a pretty decent action flick.

She looks pretty haggard in that picture.

I used to watch the more recent Mission Impossible series all the time as kid in the early 90's. I think the reason I enjoyed the first film so much was because of the complex plot (can't go wrong with Jean Reno even with minimal screen time), any special effects were an added bonus.

When it comes to film I'll take solid characters and a strong plot over explosions any day. Now if they can combine the two I'm sold. I think I'll wait until this hits the cheap theater.

I liked the first two, I don't see why the third would be any different. Can't wait! I don't really see movies in the theater anymore though, so I guess i'll wait for the dvd release.

This might be the best film of the three. I would like to forget that MI2 ever happened, since it's easily one of the worst movies of the last decade (imo!).

MI3 is a great "popcorn flick." Phillip Hoffman was good, and there were lots of neat special effects. Abrams, to his credit, resists the urge to use the super-tight zoom shots during fight sequences like in the Bourne movies. Instead, you can actually see what's going on, who's throwing punches, etc.

Agreed.

I surprised myself... I actually enjoyed it. But yeah, as CC said, I still hate Cruise though. Smarmy git.

I actually liked it quite a bit, great summer action movie just as I had predicted. Really made you hate the bad guy and root for the home team! The only thing that PISSED ME THE FUCK OFF is that they never told us what the 'Rabbits Foot' was. I was hoping it would be that 'god particle' or whatever that scientist guy was talking about.

I recall quite liking the first two, but was rather disappointed with this one. It was still decent, entertaining, etc and I think Tom Cruise is hot and a good actor -- I really don't give two fucks about his personal life.

Still, I was expecting more...3/5.
