Film: Milk

[up all night]

I absolutely loved this movie. I'm not a big van sant fan, so actually wasn't expecting much, but this movie, to me, was almost perfect. Awesome performances and a relatively simple but beautiful story. Nothing was overstated or overplayed, and it was genuinely moving.

The story was excellent and well told and the acting was superb not just good. One of the best Hollywood films I've seen in the past year.

I'm sick of straight people trying to play gay people. How do you play a gay person in a film if your straight? Do you give limp hands and other stereotypical gay gestures? What about those crazy gay actors who play straight people? The nerve of them! Walking around giving firm handshakes and drinking milk from the carton.


Have you ever actually SEEN the real Harvey Milk before? Check him out on YouTube before making an ignorant statement, such as the one above. Penn more than did him justice and not by acting like a cliche' "flamer". The man was gay and that was how he acted and talked. Penn wasn't playing a homosexual. He was playing Harvey Milk, who just happened to be homosexual.

Should we have white actors playing african americans in films as well? Should they live in city housing and smoke blunts and call each other brother because thats how YOU think African Americans act?

You mean as opposed to the black actors and comedians who imitate whitey by acting all lame and speaking proper? That makes up at least 85% of all stand-up shown on BET.

Great story , brilliantly acted by Penn (great to win oscar as his body of work but think Frank Langella in Frost/Nixon pipped him) and Van Sant switching (back to) mainstream film.
4 stars for mine.

Actor Denis O'Hare who plays ant-gay Senator John Briggs in the film is in reality openly gay.

i guess he souldn't have been cast in the role either!

oh, and he was so unconvincing too. i mean, the acting was so bad that i guessed in 10 seconds that he was gay
