WHAT WHAT WHAT!?!?!?
Universal is owned by General Electric????????
CHEESE AND RICE.... This world is going down the toilet. No Wonder movies have gotten so shitty, theyve become a part of the McDonalization of the whole world. All they care about is making money, not making good movies. Does any1 else see a huge problem with this?

you have just now noticed this lol omg this has been going on since like color tv

wonderful film. but it made me a little depressed.

the 3 hours flew past. hardly noticed it.

King Kong is top notch entertainment. I was pleasently suprsised by Jack Black's performance, and the movie didn't drag on at all for me (Though my friend thought it did).

I absolutely hated it.
It went on and on and on and on and on for no reason. There were so many scenes that had absolutely no relavence.
In fact, when it got to two hours and they were still on the Island i was thinking...oh, they must be making a second one for the New York part.
I had no idea it was going to last so long.

I really enjoyed it!
Kong was awesome, his facial expressions and body language were perfect
the island natives were wicked
and the scene at the top of the empire state building with the planes was beautiful!
but i thought they kinda overdid it on a few scenes
the stampede with the dinosaurs and the swarm of giant insects in the pit made me roll my eyes but other than that i was entertained the entire time

Not as good as I had hoped, but not bad. The action was good, the rest was blah. Too long, not a sad enough ending in my opinion. I wanted to feel more empathy towards Kong. The lead female was awesome i thought.

Nowhere NEAR as good as ANY of the Lord of the Ring movies in my opinion.

[edit - SPOILERS REMOVED. please don't post spoilers for a movie that just opened.]

cg-amazing
action scenes-very well done
jack black-not right for the role. too many things that were funny because jack black was saying them, when it wasn't supposed to be funny.
length-The whole film should have fit into the time it took to finally get to the city. By the time the jungle scene was over I was tired and wanted it to be over.
A few other nitpicks but overall it was pretty good. 3 stars

Now lets see if Jackson can put this much effort into the halo movie.

CG was stunning. Never realized how archetypel Kong is, but Peter Jackson (who is becoming visionary in his works), really did well updating this story for our generation to experience. 1930s New York is amazing.

The proverbial 500 lb. gorilla.

This is the second movie I've seen all year long in the theatre, and if it had been the only one I still would have been satisfied.

While I was watching this I had an interesting thought..

While most find the movie intersting because of the strange love that develops between a beautiful women and a "big fucking gorilla", what if Naomi Watts was only suffering from Stockholm Syndrome?

Stockholm Syndrome describes the behavior of kidnap victims who, over time, become sympathetic to their captors. The name derives from a 1973 hostage incident in Stockholm, Sweden. At the end of six days of captivity in a bank, several kidnap victims actually resisted rescue attempts, and afterwards refused to testify against their captors.
While some people are suggesting the recent Elizabeth Smart kidnapping sounds like a case of Stockholm Syndrome, the most famous incident in the U.S. involved the kidnapped heiress Patty Hearst. Captured by a radical political group known as the Symbionese Liberation Army in 1974, Ms. Hearst eventually became an accomplice of the group, taking on an assumed name and assisting them in several bank robberies. After her re-capture, she denounced the group and her involvement.

What causes Stockholm Syndrome? Captives begin to identify with their captors initially as a defensive mechanism, out of fear of violence. Small acts of kindness by the captor are magnified, since finding perspective in a hostage situation is by definition impossible. Rescue attempts are also seen as a threat, since it's likely the captive would be injured during such attempts.

It's important to note that these symptoms occur under tremendous emotional and often physical duress. The behavior is considered a common survival strategy for victims of interpersonal abuse, and has been observed in battered spouses, abused children, prisoners of war, and concentration camp survivors.

When I watched the movie with this in mind, it took on a whole new dimension and became immensely more interesting IMHO :)

I thought this was gonna be really lame....but to my surprise it was pretty damm good....Awesome action scenes and the female lead was great....thought some of the kong personaification stuff was a lil bit over done....but still good movie.....I really felt for the big o lug

I gave it 4 out of 5 stars

I feel like I'm the only one out of my friends that didn't hate King Kong. The main complaint seems to be that it was too long. Well, you're going to a fucking Peter Jackson flick... if you knew anything you'd remember how long all three LOTRs were. Anyway, I thought the computer animation was absolutely flawless! There were points that I forgot the dinosaurs weren't actually real. Thus, IMO, accomplished the standard I wanted from the film. I thought the acting could use some work... but that wasn't really meant to be the strong-suit of the film anyway. ***1/2/****

I agree. My brother asked me what I thought, and I was basically like 'it is what it is", which is an amazing feat for CGI in movies. I feel it sets a new standard within the film industry for graphics. Does it make me laugh like Ghost World or even almost cry like Braveheart? No, but it never claims or tries to.

Well the Oscar for best special effects is in the bag.

I looked at my watch just once during the film, and that was roughly during the early part of the island act. It was comical, charming, adventurous, and simply stunning from a visual standpoint that I must applaud the work of Jackson and Weta for such an excellent job milking that 200+ mil. for all it's worth. Hell, it better be a three-hour adventure if the powers that be are footing that kind of bill.

The look and feel of depression-era NY was just marvelous, and the CG work just on that deserves good mention, though it was hardly anything special after what takes place on the island. While there were some seriously ridiculous action moments, they were just exciting to watch unfold and seeing Kong kick some major ass was just a visual delight. I think the casting was more or less high quality and really had little room for improvement, if any. My personal favorite character was Bruce Baxter, who added a nice flavor of comic relief. The dynamic of the the ship's crew was also solid, with the possible exception of the single generic, stereotypical chinese character.

SPOILER

I definitely could've done without the whole sliding on the frozen pond scene. While it was funny at first, it quickly hit my nerves after the 4th or 5th time we had to see Kong smiling while spinning on his ass. The first comical interaction between the big Ape and Naomi was plenty, and far better in taste. I did like how the ending was handled, however...though the last line was not exactly what I wanted to hear before the credits rolled. ;)

Oh, I cried the first 2 (maybe 3) times I watched it, and I still get chills everytime he screams "FREEDOM!!!!", but no, I dont cry anymore from the movie. Also, I kinda take back that statement anyway, b/c really King Kong does try to do it all (humor, action, drama . . .), it just didn't work on me, other than the amazing action. I didn't develop an emotional attachment to the beast, like so many critics have claimed to, and Jack Black didn't provide comic relief (to the point where I was laughing), but I suppose the movie actually does try to do that, so I was pretty much completely off in my earlier statment.

I really liked it when he was climbing up the theatre chairs and the place was falling apart. That was my favorite part.

well, that and when he flung her onto his back.
