a "true" christian? be careful there, even the evangelicals aren't. don't forget they still go to to church when they are ragging.
I guess what I meant is that if you truly believe this life is just the test for heaven/hell placement, it would be logical to act in a manner that some of these people do. "True christian" was horrible phrasing on my part, in fact I doubt people even agree which christianity is the 'true' one. But my point is that if you truly believe that your short little life here is the determinant for where you'll spend ETERNITY, then of course you'll act batshit crazy, as this life is so small and petty compared to the word of god and the afterlife.

aha! I tried clicking the link to the thread, and it kept telling me the thread wasn't there.

Good idea to add that poll - I was first to vote yay!

Well I gave it 4 stars and seem to be in good company. This movie was quite creepy. One quote I remember from that lady running the place.. That in Palestine the Muslim families send their kids to camps where they brainwash them and put hand grenades in theit hands, its no wonder they grow up willing to blow themselves up... So their solution is to start brainwashing kids over here? ...so when the time is right all they have to do is start including the hand grenades in their training so that we can blow ourselves up too.. I was just talking about this in another thread, how religion can lead to extinction. Some ten-fifteen thousand years ago when the Neanderthals Venus cult became more organized with various symbols, idols and priests and such, it also became progressivley more violent, to the point of ritual defleshing and cannibalism. They literally ate each other alive. Some evidence shows that many of these Neanderthal tribes also became more vilent to each other and other hominids during this time as well, ultimately leading to their extinction.

Humorous quote from the film:

(I don't think I'm giving away the plot here, hence no spoiler tags)

evangelist lady (above) preaching to auditorium full of kids: "We've got too many Christians that are fat and lazy. They don't want to give up their evening meal."

Bloody priceless!

I found it a bit very boring. Two stars.

yeah, I almost pissed my pants when we caugh that (it was a roomfull of skinny people, we all kind of laughed our asses off!)

dude, you've got nerves of steel if you found 'jesus camp' to be boring.

(edit - any films on this subject you wouldn't think of as boring? Because if you thought this was boring, you'd only be able to arrive at that conclusion based on other films I'd imagine, so if you've got recommendations on films of this subject matter that aren't boring, I'm all ears! But in all honesty, I honestly think you're a cold dude if found jesus camp to be boring (or you're a hardcore born-again, and don't find it boring because it's just what you expect and experience in your life regualrly).

bingalpaws, I found the repetition very boring. There was absolutely nothing new past the first ten minutes of the film. The same evangelist preaching to the same kids chanting the same "tongues" speak.

For related viewing, look up Marjoe (1972), God's Next Army (BBC; a regular google-web search provides a link to google-video), With God on Our Side, probably some more modern episodes out there too. Mostly, it's just that this is nothing at all new, not that there are more exciting films on the topic out there. As such, if I were to make a documentary on a subject that's already been covered many times over, I would probably try to put an effort into better presentation. Switch it up a little, you know?

edit: oh, and just to clarify on your last, I am not a hard core born-again. Far from it. I've been around the block a few times though, including the tongues speaking pentecostals (thanks to my ex).

i just found the subject matter sad. very fuckin sad. these kids aren't taught to love, but to be prideful and create conflict. you do not gee each other up with screaming, hollering and jabbering in nonsense toward loving their fellow man, you do it to steel them for trouble.

^^ This is what I was saying. That camp lady's own comparison of the Muslims training their kids.. the same way these Christians are, training them for battle, for war. And these people actually believe there will be one, the same "end of the world" crap that can only be self-fufilling. They want the apocalypse, they live for it. Very sad, indeed.

the phelps are, by far, the craziest of crazies I've ever seen in my life. I would love to know their itinerary, I'd *PAY* money to be able to attend something that I knew they'd be picketing at!

(I attached pics in case people don't realize who the phelps are)

^^ I just watched that Youtube BBC podcast on them and I've gotta say that I'm genuinly concerned for America. If these are the type of crazed wackos out there that make up 51% of the voters.. those people with the "W is for Winner" stickers on their bumpers. Geez, has half the country gone mad?

No the phelps stand alone in their lunacy, I think they're pretty solo out there. I don't think there's many, if any, churches aside from their own who are like that.

I seriously oughtta figure out their protest schedule, as said I'd literally pay to go see these whackos in public! Can you imagine the fucking sideshow their demonstrations must be? Hell, they have their kids with them!! (I wanted to find more blatant pics of their kids with these signs but was rushing when I grabbed those. It's nuts tho, you'd think it'd be child endangerment, given how frequently they get attacked. The beautiful part? It seems almost like jerry springer violence - you don't get in trouble! A woman tried to run down with her car once, and the judge granted her temporary insanity!! One time one of them had a '9/11 was great' or something like that sign, and got his face beaten in like crazy, don't think anyone got in trouble for that.

Actually here's some tagged linky's to wiki spots lol:
The phelps are the most known family (the father is the head of the church, I wonder how many people outside the family are even members...) of the westboro baptist church. They regularly do demonstrations in what would be deemed pretty inappapropriate / tactless places (picketing soldier's funerals, project laramie plays, etc) in some of the most vulgar ways humanly possible (quotes).

"The group carries out daily picketing in Topeka (purportedly six per day with fifteen on Sunday, "Lord willing", per the index page of its main website[19]) and travels nationally to picket the funerals of homosexual victims of murder, homosexual-bashing or death related to AIDS, as well as other events related or appearing to be related to homosexual people. "

their website, where they have a monuments to dead homosexuals, where they have at least 2 dead people's 'days in hell counters', it's pretty clear these people are too looney for many people to side with, no matter how hardcore others may seem.

Well the way this family "hates fags" so much, I honestly can't imagine any of them being anything but gay.

lol!!!!!!! It's weird tho, because their kids have these signs too, and you'll see kids holding signs about fags, or 9/11, when the kid is clearly too young to be able to even grasp the concepts of the signs.

That's half the reason I'd love to go to their protests, I'd be hitting on every single one of their men so hard it wouldn't even be funny!!!! (am I alone here? I mean I wasn't exaggerating, I'd *pay* to get into a protest area of theirs!! If you read the westboro baptist church's wiki page, you'll see how it seems like no matter what happens to these tards at their protests, the courts almost universally side with whoever attacked them. It's like the friggin springer show, only in real life!)

don't even gotta click it (it's the one with the gay dude hitting on their guys? Or is it the one where the reporter is interviewing the guy, and then starts making passes at him? Ahhh I'll watch!)

I'm not even gay, but you'd see me in the most flambouyant shit on earth if I could go to their events. Either that, or you'd see me with a sign just like theirs, infiltrating their group =D

HAHA!!! That's the scene I thought it would be, but the clips I've seen of that interaction weren't put together nearly as well as that (I think it may've been the entire interview period, that just collects the good parts).

%) <<begins ripping video from youtube>>%)

life may seem scary at times... but there's always escape to bluelight where the word pious has never even been heard of
