i read in an interview that he apparantly refuses to explain it.

I thought that he deliberately misspelt it so that it would be clear it wasn't so much a remake of the original "Inglorious Bastards", but rather a homage to it... although that still doesn't make very much sense.

I went to see this today & loved it. A welcome return to what he does best & I thought Brad Pitt was exceptionally good. There was so much comedy & tongue in cheek moments, that anyone who takes it seriously should have a long good look at themselves. Who cares if it isn't historically accurate, it's all about entertainment & entertain it did.

If your looking for a movie that depicts real world war 2, then this is not it - by a long shot, but if your looking for a film that has over the top violence & great dialogue, you may have just found it.

To me, Deathproof was one of the worst movies I had ever had the misfortune of seeing. I hated every scene & every bullshit statement irritated me. This however had me pissing myself at various moments & I loved Christoph Waltz who played the jew hunting SS Colonel Hans Landa. Pitt speaking Italian etc, etc.

It's been a while since I enjoyed a film so much. I give it 5 stars. Yes 5!

ok...the trailer is sorta misleading.
i thought it was gonna be a more serious film, with a respectable bloodbath.

this movie made my head hurt.
but it wasn't bad....it just....i don't know.
you had to be there...

there's a scene where everyone shoots each other in the dick! ....the FUCK????

i watched the original inglorious bastards made in 1977 last night before i go and see the new one.

the whole thing was lol worthy, i had to keep checking the cover to be sure it wasn't a monty python flick.

acting was terrible, ...... actually the whole thing was. i carried on and watched the whole thing because i dont think the laffs i got from it were, intended so it made it all that more funny.

now to see the new one.

I have to stick up for Tarantino here. I think he get's a bad rap.

What exactly is your gripe? Are you pissed that QT doesn't continue making the same movie over and over again? Or you expecting every QT movie to have the same revolutionary impact that Pulp Fiction had?

Secondly, yes, Pulp Fiction was a masterpiece. But have any of you actually watched Resevoir Dogs lately? If you haven't, trust me, it's not as good as you remember. I saw for the first time in about 10 years recently and I thought there were huge flaws in the script, the acting, and the directing.

Why am I saying this when I'm supposed to be defending QT? Because I don't really buy this argument that QT was better in the old days. Sure Pulp Fiction prolly beats anything else he's done. But IMO, if you took his last three movie versus his first three, I'd take his last three.

i expected more of QT actually.
i mean, just look at the trailer
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5sQhTVz5IjQ

i expected a good 2- 3 hours of nonstop violence.
that's not what i got....but it wasn't bad. the movie actually had a fair bit of humor to it.

still can't get over the dick shooting, though...

Given the positive responses Basterds has been getting, I was actually considering watching this at the cinemas until I read about the dick shooting scene. Thanks for saving me the trouble.

For a low budget directoral debut, I thought Reservoir Dogs was absolutely brilliant. Whereas Kill Bill & Deathproof were both self-indulgent messes, far more concerned with style, sexual references and gun toting bitches in tight pants than anything else.

Reservoir Dogs + Pulp Fiction + Jackie Brown < Kill Bill + Death Proof + Inglourious Basterds?!?

The character Mike Myers portrayed was worth all the extra dialogue and subtitles. I get the giggles every time I think about it.

Big fat letdown

The good parts were great!

So why the fuck did he not make more of them? over 75% of the movie was boring shit nothing worthlessness

But the good parts were great!

Fail.

^It sounds like a lot of the dissapointment stemming from this film is due to the fact that it isn't a bloodbath from beginning to end. Is that about right?

I've heard that the trailers totally misrepresent the film and that it isn't actually full of baseball-bashed Nazi sculls and racist, borderline retarded US army colonels.

Without spoiling the film for me, what is boring about the other 75%?

Does anyone like the lengthy, subtitled, non-violent sections?

Because that, if anything, would be what interests me... and God help me I'm still considering going to see this at the cinemas.

^dude, you might like it. His atmospheric and witty dialogue is running full swing in this.

well i agree the trailer misrepresents the film. not as much action as i expected.

i enjoyed ever minute tho of the lengthy, subtitled, non-violent sections. i think it was great acting/writing, especially whenever "hans landa" played by christoph waltz was on screen.

the ending makes up for those non-violent sections, i keep replaying it in mind.

i found the trailer did misrepresent the movie but it certainly wasn't a problem. the rest of the movie contains plenty of stuff for which tarantino is famous: quirky and often hilarious dialog; beautifully shot scenes; comical violence; etc.

totally. there are a couple of scenes (the opening scene which sets up the story and the scene in the basement bar) which are, for the most part, nothing more than dialog. the basement bar scene in particular had me uncomfortably on the edge of my seat until the denouement.

alasdair

Trailer misrepresented the movie? Affirmative.

But thats all there is for the last 10 years, trailers completely misleading you. Take District 9 for example 8)

Bloodbath from beginning to end? Negative

Perhaps that is why it didn't work.

Enjoy the lengthy subtitled non-violent parts? Well sure..I mean the characters are cool, the context of the situations keep it not so boring...but that doesn't make up for the fail of a movie.

Music? wow..such a fail. poor quentin, he had a chance for epic music to bring the movie to life, and he didn't pull through.

oh ya, the racism.

Yes it's there, and it seemes like he depended on it tremendously to pull the movie out of the mud...or else, the movie let me down so bad that it just seems like the racism was used as a crutch.
