Film: HERO

Hi guys,

I remember actually seeing some clips of this movie at a party I was at but never realised what is was until now. Wow does this look like an awesome flick, it stars JET LI & DONNIE YEN, not only does the action and special effects look like the best ever, but the cinematography looks breathtaking.

Can someone help me with a release date in Australia? Will it be released on normal cinema? I hope so, any info would help, thanks.

It was a disappointment in Hong Kong financially...though I hear it is a pretty decent film.

TWINS! HAHAHAHAHA the wrath continues. One of them is cute.

Whuddup JJ. =D

I have seen this.

It is pretty good, I would say just as decent as Crouching Tiger.
Some great fight scene's though in certain places it gets a bit much.. rather silly ending.

This movie is a B+ GRADE flick. Seen it and not the best but bearable, although I did like the ending when the movie came together...

If you like asian films watch "Musa The warrior" this movie is very good and has brilliant cinematography, apparently it was an epic like film in Korea made over 5 years and 60 million.

Hero is the best kung fu movie ever made. Crouching Tiger looks like sesame street by comparison. No, make that teletubbies. If you took all the cool fighting out of crouching tiger, what would you have? Basically a whole lot of fluff, practically nothing. On the other hand, if I had seen a version of Hero with all the kung fu taken out, I still would have found it captivating.

Now, if you know the genre, you also know that the fighting in Crouching Tiger was good, but not GREAT. Fist of legend, for example, has much cooler fighting (and a somewhat better plot, I think.) The fighting in Hero is GREAT. Every kung fu movie has at least a few moves that are so cool, you have to watch them over and over. Well, hero has these by the dozens, perhaps the hundreds.

The whole movie is breathtakingly beautiful, the scripting, the acting, the cinematography, special effects, the fighting, everything. In fact, in my opinion, the script is more captivating overall than the fighting. It's completely seamless, and in no way is it silly. It portrays gods (pretty much) with human emotions, the subject of many a good drama. Like shakespear, it's the perfect mix of comedy and tragedy.

See this movie. If you're having trouble finding it, I can tell you a place where a .torrent file will be posted........

austior: you have really made me even more eager to see this now hehe is there anyway you can find out for me when this will be released on Australian cinemas???

Thanks.

Damn this is maybe my most anticipated movie this year, though coming close and maybe even would be 'The Machinist'.

Just curious in the release info on IMBD its got HERO to be released in AUS in June 2004; There is no way it will go straight to video right? Will the screening take place the same it did for 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon', I cant possibly see it not going to cinema, it looks like a stunning picture, if it does Australia really dont know what they are doing. The reason its a little worrying is that many top asian pictures are put straight to video or even not here yet but have been released in other countries for ages.

I know this doesn't help you at all,but while you're waiting for it to be released in June, all my friends have just gone across the border to Shenzhen and picked up perfect quality copies for about $1.

If you like Hero, you'd probably also like to know that the director, Zhang Yimou, is currently in production on another martial arts Hero-style film which is supposed to be just as good, if not better.

I LOVED HERO!! Here in the USA its another movie that Miramax bought then supressed (much like the overhyped SHAOLIN SOCCER). I was able to see it as I live near Chinatown (NYC) & the import version of the DVD has been available for the past year. What makes Miramax's mishandling of this film so insane is the fact that it was amongst the nominees for Best Foreign Language film at the 2002 Oscars.

This film is a beautiful epic, whether you are a martial arts fan or a casual movie goer. It sports beautiful & sensual photgraphy, a BRILLIANT musical score (utilizing moody atmospheric Chinese period music rearely heard outside of Asia that almost sounds like American blues crossed with Brian Eno but is 100% authentic for its turn of the century setting) & one of the most breathtaking fight sequences I've ever seen: its a hallucinatory scene thats set over the stillest lake ever filmed. The scene is shot from under the water & as the fighters glide over the water their toes lightly piece the surface creating ripples...you have to see it to believe it.

Some have a problem with HERO because its moodly, lyrical & not just an excuse for one action sequence after another. Some have described it as the first David Lynch martial arts film. Its a great epic that happens to have a lot of great martial arts sequences. Its also great to see Jet Li, Donnie Yen & Maggie Cheung exercise their acting chops for a change. This is a great film thats worth the wait.

HERO to be released in USA!!!!

Finally!! USA theatrical release date of 14 April confirmed for HERO. Although I've seen the film on DVD I cannot wait to experience this brilliant epic on a big screen.

Just had the opportunity to see this film and wow was I impressed. Story line was at times confusing but so realistically structured. Action scenes were just breathtakingly amazing, Jet Li was magnificent and Donnie Yen is no doubt a legend! The colour scheming in the film was sooo good, loved it.

I dont want to go into too much detail as there is just so much good stuff I can say about it. If I had to pull out a disadvantage to the flick, yes the end could of built a bit more of a stronger finale but hey its history that you sometimes shouldnt change in a story to keep it real.

Recommend this, definately level with the standards of Crouching Tiger maybe even a little better, good stuff!

I love that movie. It was released here like mid last year. I think it is a very artistic flim and the ending was classic! The fight scene of Jet Li and Donnie Yen is awesome too.

Heard this movie is only in select theaters......NY & LA i believe......

Does anyone know if they will do a mass release?

I reallllllly wanna see this!!
