Heavenly creatures

I have heard about this movie for years, and finally just saw it.

Wow.

I thought it was fabulous, and Kate Winslet was just incredible. Both of the girls really are wonderful to watch.

It is a true story about two girls in the 50's who have a very strange strong bond, and when the parents decide they dont want them to be together anymore, they decide to kill one of the mothers.

I did a little googling, and apparently Julia is alive and well, writing novels under the name Anne Perry.

check it out...

I found it amusing that she forgot to mention "bludgening a women with a brick" as part of her history. Guess she forgot that part.

edit:

I found a write up on Pauline too. She has been found also.

IMO Pauline was the one who seems downright insane, but I feel so sorry for the other girl. As a little girl she is left alone in the Bahamas for 5 years, her parents don't want her enough to stay with her? Then they leave her again while sick with TB for 4 months THEN when divorcing, decide to give her to an aunt. No wonder the poor dear was insane, and wanted to do anythign to stay with her only friend.

Great film, very much in the sorta vibe you get from Jackson's early films but very dense, well written and serious. I think the best thing about this film were the fantasy sequences with the clay people dancing or looking distorted or just acting in the fantasy.

Thanks to LOTR its way more avaliable then it was 5 years ago but movies like "Meet the Feebles" still impossible to find. O well.

This is probably one of my favorite movies. Unusual, beautifully filmed, and very very well-acted. Big thumbs up from me. :)

This is my favourite Peter Jackson film (along with Braindead). I love the whole fantasy aspect of it. And the performances by both the leads are excellent.

great bump! it is funny how many amazing movies you forget about, i forgot even that i made a thread about this, much less remember watching it.

incredible film!!

wonderful film.
dreamy at times
haunting at others
bone chilling too

as an intriguing postscript to this movie, during the making of this movie it came out that juliet was, in fact, mystery novelist anne perry (of the william monk novels). so now you know!

i love this movie. not just because it's dark and dreamy but because my favourite actress and #1 all-time celebrity crush - kate winslet - is in it.

Kate Winslet's great. But I hate the way the press built her up to put her down. They made a big song and dance about her in the mid 90's, saying how she was gonna be the next big thing. Then when she made it they were constantly picking on her about her weight etc. Who gives a fuck about her weight?. She's always looked lovely to me :\

She's gorgeous and that's that. I just watched Sense and Sensibility again yesterday (thank you, OnDemand Free Movies) and I always marvel at just how lovely she is in that movie.
