Film: The Godfather Part III

It's common knowledge that the third installment in the Godfather saga is the worst one. We've all heard the jokes. But I just watched it for the first time since I was a little kid, and it is astonishingly bad. I mean, it is absolutely terrible. I cannot express how bad this film is. It is possibly the worst motion picture ever made.

Certainly there are worse films out there, from a technical perspective, but this movie just totally takes a brilliant and compelling work of art and shits all over it. The writing was horrible. The plot was nearly incoherent. The point of throwing in an incestuous relationship still eludes me. Not to mention the implausibility of a helicopter shooting up a room full of gangsters, Connie Corleone being allowed to order hits and all the people that just sort of randomly pop up with no explanation. George Hamilton as a character named BJ Harrison? What the fuck!?!

Not to mention the acting was incredibly bad. All the dynamic characters have been removed anyway, so the actors weren't given much to work with. But they still fucked up whatever they did have. Someone needs to sit Coppola down and tell him to stop hiring half his fucking family for these movies. I was just appalled at the shitty acting. Pacino delivered a pretty good performance, but Coppola was pushing him in the wrong direction. The whole film is a disaster. It doesn't do Puzo's original vision justice and it fucking sucks. I'm not usually this emotional about movies, but goddamnit I love the Godfather. And this one is insultingly bad.

Well the only thing that made it bearable for me was the fact that I had the hots for Andy Garcia . Huge. He was AMAZING. Now Sofia coppola, God bless her precious little heart....it was almost painful to watch her scenes. I'm sure this would have been a pretty okay (read:better but not too much lol) film if only Winona ryder hadnt gotten sick to begin with. (she was tasked to play Sofias role but got sick at the last minute).It was definitely an uncalled for, un-needed, and unnecessary sequel. I suppose it's good for those that absolutely need closure, but Part III is not even in the same league as the first 2.
Oh well. I have all three Godfather movies on DVD so there

I don't get the point of incest subplots. There was one in Gladiator also. It just made me want to look away.

For me, the worst part of Godfather III was how Coppola tried to mimic classic scenes from the first two films. It seemed degrading and disrespectful. There were some cool parts to the film, but these were greatly outweighed by the rest of the trash.

Baaaaaad casting. Terrible dialogue in the script. Also, if I'm not mistaken, Coppola was smoking hella banana.peelz at that juncture.

The only part I've ever seen of Godfather III was when Michael was meeting with the cardinal to discuss the finances/buy their debt. If I catch it on TV it's always showing that part, must have seen that scene 3 or 4 times by now.

The reason 1 and 2 are so good is because they were both based on the same book. unfortunately there is no book to base the third on.
