Film: Ghost in the Shell II: Innocence

GentlemanLoser said:
Did it suffer from the PG13 rating much? That was a bit suprising.
I was wondering that too.

The first GITS had full blown headshot gore and nude female body in the first 5 minutes...

Saw it last night. holy shit! incredible piece of art. Will definitely have to see it again.

this movies been out for ages now but only non-english.

not sure if it had subs, but check imdb for information on it, i'm sure it's seen a dvd/vhs release in it's original form.

I enjoyed seeing Innocence, but it seemed like a long and embellished episode of the Stand Alone Complex series. Which is pretty good on it's own.

The endless quotes and historical references detracted from the dialog, too many characters introduced and never developed (only to be killed or to disappear). The movie just felt crowded and drawn out in general.
.
...but I'd still see it again booted off my rocker %)

Apparently the australian premier tomorrow night at Valhalla at 7pm will have the director there to introduce.

Word of mouth rumour, but I'll be there regardless.....that is with no regard to the safety of others once I find out the rumour is BS.

I'm currently watching the first movie to gee myself up. The english is in 5.1 whilst the japanese is only 2 channel. So to compare the dialogue, I'm watching in english with english subtitles. There are many differences, not plot wise, but some are funny.
like...

E: Time for dissassemby
J: Time to rip her apart

Fuck! Now i understand all them rapp songs when they mention "sell out" as a negative.

It was visually fun, but as for story, a little weak. It felt a like a long episode of GITS: SAC, not a sequal to the first movie.

Also, I was suprised at the pg13 rating, it was pretty violent, a bit of language, but thats it.

It's a 3 out of 5. Good, sure but not as good as the first. The Majors role in this was so limited we might as well have not have had her character in it at all.

Hopefully the remake of Appleseed is slightly better. :\

Finally saw this on DVD last night, and my response is mixed.

What I liked:
The animation and special effects were *fantastic*, and light-years ahead of the original GITS. I regret never seeing it on the big screen. It also had plenty of the creepiness factor that made the first GITS so intriguing.

What I disliked:
I thought the plot was even more convoluted than the first film's (which, by the by I thought was a negative of the original as well). Later in the film, it seemed like every other line was a literary or philosophical quote, so much so I didn't know if I was watching GITS or a parody of same. I was just waiting for Batou to say "The marksman aims at his own heart," or some other bullshit like that (apologies to "Tremors 3"). If half the dialogue had been shaved off this film, it would have been much better.

Though GITS:SAC didn't come to mind as I was watching it, I can totally see what some people would make that comparison. The end of the first GITS hit me like a ton of bricks. The end of "Innocence" was more like, "I see what he was talking about. Next!"

Did I think it was good. I thought it was decent, yes; probably those who haven't seen GITS would get more out of it. For me though, I expected a little more.

Tried to watch this multiple times and kept falling asleep or losing concentration. Plot seemed a little scattered but looked like it may have potential. I'll try it again sometime later, but for now i'll just say the movie is 'Eh'.
