Emir Kusturica's UNDERGROUND
Anyone seen this film?
What did y'all think of it?
I just finished watching it and have been reading some reviews of it which concentrate purely on its director's political leanings...human drama and characterisation interests me much more generally speaking though, so while I could see the politics in it I didn't really pay a heap of attention to that facet.
What I thought was that while it's not the best film I've ever seen, it's definitely the kind of movie I could watch again and get something different from....it made me think.
It starts as a kind of black comedy, and that vein continues, but somewhere in the middle of it all I learned to really care about the characters so even while I could appreciate the absurdity of it all, I also felt very strongly when the plot took them to bad places. I actually got a bit teary in the end, which is very uncommon for me.
Has anybody seen this? I'd be very interested to have some discussion on what various people took from this film...
