Dogtown and Z-Boys

Anybody else seen this? Its a documentary by Stacy Peralta about the skate crew he was in that was arguably the best their ever was . . . lots of old footage and they talk to all the guys, including Tony Alva and Jay Adams . . . a must see for anybody into skateboarding.

I've seen this a few times. I haven't skated in quite a while, and I was never very good at it, but I enjoyed this film a lot. The part detailing the rise of the popularity of the Dogtown skaters was particularly good I thought. There's interviews with all kinds of people too adn you get to hear from almost all of the original members.

i haven't seen it, but i read a review that said they were being dishonest by repeating over and over that the z-boys were the source of everything in skateboarding.
and i have to agree like the critic said that "because you invented paint and pencils doesn't mean you invented cubism"

skateboaring has evolved to a point the z-boys could never have imagined in their wildest dreams.
so yes, they are at the origin of skateboarding, but they can't take the credit for rest

I never got that they said that . . . they did say over and over what pioneers that these guys were but they never have said that they were the source of everything . . . although, when you have a guy like Tony Hawk (who says this in the film) talk about how they were it . . . well, I'd take his word on skateboarding matters before some film critic . . .

Sick movie. A lot of is just Peralta hyping up his old crew, and yeah he does overstate their importance at times, but regardless, they were great skaters, and this a very good representation of them at that time.

And it was nice to watch a skate movie with plenty of pool skating footage for a change.

i watched this movie back when i was really into skateboarding...i think it's a pretty good documentary, considering what it could have been based on the subject matter.

film: Dogtown and Z-Boys

Awesome documentary-style movie. It's about the birth of skateboarding, and the guys that revolutionised the sport. The old footage is gold. I'm so stoked on this film. Every skateboarder MUST see this film. Even if you don't skate, most people would find this movie very enjoyable to watch. I had to share this with you. I think they are making a movie based on this documentary.

Great documentary.

I've heard the movie is pretty shocking.

I thought this was a great doc. The film looks like it will be a piece o f shit however...hopefully I'm wrong. worth checking out.

I loved this film as I found it documented the birth of the modern skateboarding subculture. Very interesting to look at the roots, then look at what the culture is now.

I liked it.

Haven't seen the motion picture they're making based off of it though. I thought it would be akin to the surfer-image that "Blue Crush" tries to portray(really stupid).
