in the book im pretty sure 5 people go through all at once.. yeah here's a summary:

Ultimately, a machine is successfully built and activated, transporting five passengers—including Ellie—through wormholes to a place near the center of the Milky Way galaxy, where they meet the senders of the message, and have many of their questions answered. Upon returning to Earth, the passengers discover that what seemed like many hours to them passed by in only fractions of a second on Earth, and that all their video footage has been erased, presumably by some phenomenon in the vehicle. They are left with no proof of their stories, and are accused of fabrication.

Thus, though she has traveled across the galaxy and actually encountered extraterrestrial beings, she cannot prove it.

and the book isn't cheesy cause she doesnt talk to her dead dad (cheeeeeeeze)

It's one of my all-time favorite movies (and this is coming from someone who read the book first). The special effects are great, and it raises fascinating questions about the line between faith and reason. Like some other critics though, I thought the digital insertion of the characters into scenes with Bill Clinton was distracting, and will only date the movie with time.

So then field of dreams " is cheesy cos he talks to his dead dad in that, i guess that also makes " requiem for a dream " cheesy cos marlon wayans remembers his dead mother in that also, means " its a wonderful life " is also cheesy in your book. i could go on and on, but i hear ya, you think talking to dead relatives is cheesy 8)

I haven't seen this since it came out, so i vaguely remember anything in particular about it. But I do remember I really liked it! I'll have to get the dvd one of these days ...

Bump-zor!

Unashamed knob cheese. =D

One of my favourite films... and it's on Channel 5 tonight!

Look out for Jake Busey's subtle impression of a religious nutjob! :D:\

one of my favorite movies ever! brilliant! i watch every time i get a chance....thanks for the reminder. i have meant to read the book ever since i saw it the first time. i think it is time!

^ What the... ??? :X

This is one of my favourite films too, top 5 definitely.

I just love it from start to finish. From the amazing shot with the mirror in the bathroom medicine cabinet (I still can't figure out how they did that) to the unashamed manipulative eye-leaking bits, I can't get enough of it.

I

Jodie Foster too.

Well, against my better judgement, I've decided to have a low-level trip tonight.

Me, Jodie, a bottle of red and the stars. Sounds good. =D

I apologise on behalf of my colleague and countryman. He is referring to Channel 5 here in the UK.
