I really enjoyed this movie although as an ex-smoker it was excruciating to watch. My favourite scenes would have to be the Bill Murray scene and the scene with the two old guys on the roof.

Runners up would be the Cate Blanchett scene and the scene with the two guys beside the pool (sorry it's been about a month since I viewed it).

I really enjoyed the awkwardness in most of the conversations. The characters never quite seemed to be on the same wavelength and it made for interesting viewing.

In the light of all the crap movies around recently it was refreshing to view. It's nice to see that there are still movies being made for people who appreciate dialogue and subtle humour as opposed to those who treat cinema as something akin to a roller coaster ride...

Jarmusche has actually made "coffee and cigarettes" like 3 or 4 times, but never ( at least I don't think) as a full length movie. I'm pretty sure he just does it because he enjoys getting a cast of people he likes together and having a good time making a silly movie.

I couldn't watch it all in one sitting but fortunately the vignettes made it easy to watch in multiple viewings. You can tell most of it was improv; the actors were given an outline for the scene and then banged out the particulars which makes for a kind of rambling hit and miss movie where some skits are funnier, sharper, more interesting than others. All in all I wasn't that impressed; it could have been better if Jaramusch had taken a more active role in maybe shaping it and refining some of the skits, but it was shot over something like a 17 year period so obviously that's asking a lot.

The movie is boring in a good way, like Dickens.

i made it through only a handful of meetings before i was too bored and had to turn it off. i do own it though, so maybe i'll have to try again, but this time only watch 1 chapter at a time. all the appearances by the various people is neat though.
