Can't wait to see this. Have to wait till the dvd release in september as there were only 2 cinema screenings here. All reports i've heard have been good.

I really like Jim Jarmusche and was pretty eagerly anticipating this one. I saw it in the theaters and I thought it was pretty funny. Its nothing mindblowing, but good for a few laughs and very well made. I especially liked the Rza, Gza, Bill Murry scene as well as the Tom Waits/Iggy Pop scene. The one with the two old men was also pretty funny (although kind of sad).

the theatre i saw it at was a place that has a full menu and and bar, with waitresses that come by and take your order. for this film they had a special, bottomless coffee and a free pack of cigs (cant smoke inside though, but still a good deal)

It was a fun movie to watch. Good pace, great variety of actors, cute idea. 3 stars.

Great fun! Saw it last night at the Sydney "premier". The Wright/Benigni started off on the perfect note. That and the Molina/Coogan segments were my favourate.

okay, um, what to say... firstly, this is a really enjoyable film. some segment's are bloody fantastic, they'll absolutely have you in stichs; however others... not so much (i.e. Jack and Meg from 'The White Stripes'). but still, the number of fantastic segments out weigh the number of not so fantastic ones quite considerably, which is why i'll give this one 3 out of 4 stars

p.s. Molina and Coogan - gold!

Yeah man, top Iggy Pop & Tom Waits, Blanchet and herself, Bill Murry with Rza and Gza, Molina and Coogan and Isaach de Bankolé and Alex Descas. But, the movie took like 5 meetings to get going and I was sorta tired of it near the end.

I personally enjoyed the White Stripes talk about Tesla cuz Tesla is a pretty interesting guy and it was sorta cute to have Jack White idolize him.

I honestly hated this fucking movie. I was bored the entire fucking time. I really expected this to be something worth my while too.

Just saw it...thought it was alright. Nothing original, nothing special, but worth a watch.

Quite funny in places...some brilliant acting (Blanchett, Coogan and Molina), some shocking acting (the White chick is fucking awful, ditto Iggy Pop) but on the whole, well put together and darkly poignant. If you enjoy absurdist theater you'll probably get a little more out of this...the influences from (esp.) Beckett/Ionesco/Pinter are very apparent (in both style and content.)

i totally agree with you. Nikola Tesla was a very interesting guy and that's why i think it such a pity that their acting was atrocious.

^^^ Well they were playing themselves so how much acting could have been involved? They're probably like that in real life.

I enjoyed this film but it wasn't as good as I was expecting. The Molina/Coogan scene was really funny and I'd have been happy if they were the whole movie. I also liked the Tom Waits/ Iggy Pop scene even though it was a bit strained, mainly because I'm a fan of both of them so it was fun to see. I think I heard this part was filmed years ago is that right?

The Bill Murray and Cate Blanchett scenes were also good but I found some of the other scenes not very intersting. I spose it was awkward because the person I was watching with was trying to quit the smokes at the time. On the whole it was enjoyable but could have been better. The photography was nice though what's with all the chequered table cloths?

i think there's a bit of a difference when what you're saying is scripted, you're on a set, and there's a camera on you too. they're conversation didn't seem at all natural and it needed to be- like Molina and Coogans for example.

^^^ True that! I like the white stripes but that scene definitely wasn't a winner. I know if it was me I would probably act just as stilted and lame. Maybe they'd have been better off trying to play other people.
I wonder if there was any direction when it came to how the protagonists portrayed themselves or if Jarmusch just let the cameras roll? It looks like he just let them roll and since it's a somewhat scripted piece I don't think that's a good thing.
