Johnny Depp = Willy Wonka ?

I heard this rumor that Johnny Depp is going to be playing Willy Wonka in the remake of Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. I haven't heard anything else and I don't even know if my source is valid. I was wondering if anyone else has heard anything about this? I think Depp would make an AWEOMSE Wonka. He's such a great actor. He really researches his parts and plays them well.

i was initially disappointed when i heard they planned to remake this great movie. i have since heard that it's not a remake as such. further, i heard that depp will play wonka and burton will direct - i think it should be a pretty interesting project.

i'd love this - though i'm a bit depp-crazed and think he could probably pull off *any* role that was given to him, i think this would be particularly awesome...i definitely think he has the talent and personality to make this role something very special. if burton directs this, it could be one of the best movies ever made...can't wait!

Dont know if a remake really is a bright idea, but as you say depp can probably pull of ANY role
And with Depp and Burton I think it might turn out good.

Marilyn Manson wanted to play the part of Willy Wonka in a remake because he says in his book, "I've always felt a kinship with Willy Wonka. Even at that age [12], I could tell that he was a flawed hero, an icon of the forbidden. The forbidden in this case was chocolate, a metaphor for indulgence and anything you're not supposed to have, be it sex, drugs, alcohol, or pornography."

Anyway, have you seen that one music video that he made that's like the willy wonka movie? Where they're riding the river boat thing and there are oompa-loompas and kids and candy and stuff. Yeah, I know what song it is but I'm not sure what the name of that song is and don't feel like looking it up right now. I could sing the whole thing, but don't know what it's called.

Anyway, I think Marilyn Manson would make a much more intersting Willy Wonka than Johnny Depp! I've been working on writing a movie script to combine Wizard of Ozz and Willy Wonka. I think it'd be cool if Charlie and Dorthy followed the Yellow brick road to the chocolate factory. And Marilyn Manson would be Wizard Wonka. lol

fuck hollywoood, they are just gonne keep on remaking all the greats untill everyone hates them, and hates movie stars all together, so actually i think its a good idea.

huge wonka fan, huge burton fan, huge depp fan. it has the potential to be good. if it ends up sucking at least we will still have the original wonka movie, truly a masterpiece of american cinema.

well, it seems to be on for sure. i read an interview with depp today, and he was very sure that he wanted to do this film, saying that he hoped he could explore aspects of the role that wilder was unable to. not that he was taking anything away from wilder, just that he hoped to be able to also give a unique and interesting performance. and come on, he's johnny depp, so no doubt he will!!

I just hope that it will be different from the original, whether it's a remake or a sequel or re-hash.... I don't want to see another Psycho - same movie but in colour

Hopefuly Burton will learn from mistakes made with Planet of the Apes. There isn't much info on this at all so it's hard to tell what is happening yet.
