Carlito's Day

Just 'cause this Scarface Thread's runnin' like the Pharcyde
can we have a 'Carlito's Way' thread....

Who could not LOVE this film.

"Carleeeto, Carleeeto, Carleeeto...."

Trick shot.

Who couldn't dig?
Benny Blanco from the Bronx.

It balances Scarface.

Word.
Peace.

note: the thread title is spelt wrong :)

yep, great film. probably (imo) sean penn's best role, he plays it perfectly. and it's *so* beautifully shot, you can really get a lot out of this. studied this back in first year uni, and there was some really great discussions about it on the technical side of things. the use of colour in this is nothing short of fantastic. de palma rules (pacino and penn ain't too bad either ;)).

They did act a bit, well, wasted

^^^^^
Totally agree.

But how did they make 'Hurly-Burly' without
actually being wasted?

*bump*

in light of penn's recent oscar-nominated performances in 21 grams and mystic river, i thought some more people might like to check this film out - it's well worth it.

Easily one of Pacino's best and definately Penn's best - sits nicely in my collection :)

The fact that Scarface is generally considered a better movie than Carlito's Way is utterly presposterous, in my humble opinion.

I agree. As great as Scarface was, it's still terribly overrated. I found Carlito's Way to be much better.

awesome movie, penn really showed how good he is in this, imo he acted pacino off the screen

With respect to Pacino, who overacted slightly less than normal (for him) in the film . . . I couldn't agree more.

In fact, before I had gone into the theatre that evening, I had heard that Penn gives an amazing performance in Carlito's Way and that was one of the reasons I rushed out to see the film.

Perhaps forty or forty-five minutes had elapsed in the movie, and I patiently waited for Sean Penn's emergence onscreen when I turned to my friend and exclaimed "Holy fuck! I *just* now realized that Kleinfeld is Sean Penn!"

Now that's acting. :)

Hmmmmm. Nice to see some Carlito's Way fans, I've loved this movie from the 1st time I saw it.

I still like Scarface better, but Carlito's way IS seriously underrated.

Yes the trick shot scene was cool and suspensful.

And I'm sure most noticed that the lawyer in GTA VC was Sean Penn's character to a T.

oh and the ending was art, so fucked man. :( I won't spoil it, but....yeah.

What a great flick.

Aside from Penn and Pacino being so good, it was the first movie I saw where the lead role didn’t succeeded in the face of adversity. What a refreshing change. IMO way better than Scarface.

“Dumb move man. Dumb move. But it’s like all them old reflexes coming back.”

“You think you big time? You gonna fucking die...big time!”

In my opinion its Sean Penn's greatest performance.

The character that Sean Penn played in this movie was also the same Character used as Tommy's Lawyer in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
