I'm currently in the process of watching this. I'll let you know what I think soon.

trailer looks like nothing special at all

The lead's ridiculous face in the trailer is enough to keep me away.

^yeah, the film should be called "GASP!"

Saw this at the cinema yesterday. Not impressed at all. Nothing redeeming about it.

The dialogue is wincingly corny. The premise has been done to death and it was done better in Independence Day.

I've seen better war movies and better alien movies. I was quite fond of Cloverfield, for instance. However this movie does nothing novel or clever in it's presentation. There's no real sense of suspense or mystery to it. It's just a bunch of blurry shots of machine gun fire and men clenching their teeth.

This > Independence Day

Independence Day was a steaming turd pile boarding on comedy. Wait, it was a comedy. This plays out as the reviews suggest like some weird Black Hawk Down. Some sentimentality that wasn't too overboard.

It was better than expected. Eckhardt was pretty good in it.

For all the people thinking it was a bad movie, you did understand the premise didn't you?

I realise Independence Day had a more lighthearted approach at times. However, I don't see that as a bad thing. When B:LA tried to manufacture some chemistry between the characters, it came off as tacky. While you may have thought that the serious and 'sentimental' diversions from the main plot were comendable. I did not. For example, 'you're going to survive! You're going to marry Sarah!'. Every time a character would dramatically shout a line like that, and there were plenty, I would turn to my friends, who would be rolling their eyes, like me.

I considered walking out, because I felt so uninvested in the film.

Are you trying to say that because the premise of the film was not complex or novel, it's ok for the film to be bland and tacky? I knew that the premise wasn't particularly groundbreaking before I went to see it. I just thought it still might have some entertainment. But I was wrong. Nothing was good about it.

Well, I'm sorry to hear that. :( I'm just saying that the movie is a bunch of marines blowing alien shit up. I went solely for that purpose. That fact that there were some pluses in there was just icing on the cake.

I think we can agree that this isn't some arty remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers or something.

heh, sorry, I get that you enjoyed it for the action. But I'm saying that I wanted to enjoy it on that level, but I still couldn't.

It's not that I dislike action movies. It's that I didn't even enjoy this on the level of mindless action.

^^ The line to the Mickey Mouse ride has ended for today at Super Disneyworld. Please try again tomorrow.
