Film: American Gangster

Just released on DVD here in Australia on Wednesday...

I gave it a 4/5 but if there was a 4.5 option I would've taken that :D

Denzel Washingtons acting was superb, and even Russel Crowe had a good crack at his character. The fact he is obviously (to me) putting on an accent is a downside though.

I hadn't heard anything about the history of Heroin in New York and it was really quite interesting. How someone could set up such and intricite operation and run it so successfully was totally fascinating. These sorts of things are running all around us and people just dont realise the scale.

I particuarly like this genre of movies, eg drug/crime related. And the fact that it was based on a true story made it even better

I saw this movie a few eeks ago high as hell and watched it yesterday relatively sober. I thought it was very well done. A movie I would not mind watching again.

i didnt know the story of frank lucas before so i dont know how true to real life the movie stayed but i enjoyed it alot.

I saw this in the theater, heavily narcotized, and on DVD later in pretty much the same state. Even through my impairment, I was not that impressed with the film.

Then, two nights ago, I caught it on HBO, relatively sober, and was blown away by what a good, complex story it is. Really like the character development, and their moral ambiguities.

Josh Brolin makes a great villain. Carla Gugino is too hot for words.
